Mohammad Rizwan and Azhar Ali fought back for Pakistan and helped it play out the entire day before being bowled out. That was a pretty commendable achievement from Pakistan considering they were 30 for 4 just after the start of play on Day 3.
England did not help its cause with dropped catches and now must race against time to get a result. Azhar Ali played a true captain’s knock as scored 141 and remained not out. In fact, he has now come out to bat and will open the batting in the second inning as well.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad were the wicket-takers in chief. Chris Woakes bowled well and while Jofra Archer generated some good pace, he could not get a wicket to his name.
Every single bookmaker has the Draw as the favorite right now and then England. This is an indication of how poor the weather forecast is for the next two days because there is more than enough time left in the match.
The pitch has also flattened out quite a bit and taking wickets may not be as easy as it was in the first inning.
The new ball is going to be key. England managed to pick four wickets before the ball got old in the first inning and something similar will be required. Pakistan knows that it can get away with a draw if it holds on for just one or two good sessions.
We also think Dominic Bess might finally have a role to play in this match. There are some footmarks that have developed on the surface that will give Bess something to aim for. We could get a very exciting day of cricket if the weather holds.
The new ball is when the Pakistani batsmen have looked the most in trouble. James Anderson is hunting for his 600th wicket and will be coming straight after Shan Masood and co. The presence of a confident Azhar Ali makes this bet more risky than usual but we still think England’s new-ball bowlers will help you win this one.
James Anderson Clear England Top Bowler, Babar Azam Clear Top Pakistan Batsman, Both in 2nd Inning
Yes at $10.5
A return of over 10x if Anderson makes the best use of swinging conditions and Azam scores the most runs for Pakistan. This is an excellent bat with some obvious risks. Anderson is surrounded by other quality bowlers, including an in-form Stuart Broad, who could pick more wickets.
Babar Azam has struggled after his initial fluent fifty in the first test. He is, however, the best Pakistani batsman in the team and one can expect him to show some mettle when the team needs it most. Even a small bet will return handsomely thanks to the brilliant odds being offered.
Pakistan has no realistic chance of winning the match after a disastrous day 2. They are now trailing England by 559 runs and have just seven wickets in hand. The day began with England continuing to pummel Pakistan’s bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Zak Crawley scored 267 showed just why he is going to be around at the international for a very long time. He and Jos Buttler had the Pakistani bowlers at their complete mercy. They also scored at a very fast pace and the players that followed them did the same.
We think England batted on till they reached 583 so they would not have to bat again. They left themselves just 13 overs to bowl which seemed a bit less on first thought. As it turned out, it was enough for England to pick up three wickets including the important wicket of Babar Azam.
England is as dominant as it could hope to be at the moment. James Anderson has three wickets and he will start with Asad Shafiq about to face his first ball. Azhar Ali is at the crease on the other hand and he is going through a horrific phase in his career as well. Asad Shafiq has very few runs in this series and Fawad Alam will be under tremendous pressure.
We could see Pakistan completely collapse. A follow-on is looking more like a certainty at this point in time.
Jofra Archer bowled very fast in the couple of overs he got. He is going to be used in short bursts with Anderson, Broad, and Woakes doing the most of the work. England is going to want to finish up things by Day 4 latest.
Pakistan is 24 for 3 and we are going under 182 with confidence. The ball is still new, the English bowlers are fresh, and they have enough runs to be able to set aggressive fields without any worries. 182 could be well out of reach for Pakistan at this point in time.
This bet is also a pretty easy one to make. Azhar Ali is in terrible form and looked to be uncomfortable during the time he was at the crease. He is going to face up to a swinging ball with his team facing certain defeat. He needs to score another 22 runs for you to lose this bet and we just don’t see that happening.
This is a tricky bet. It looks very doable on the first instance but England has already picked three wickets with none of them caught by Buttler. That being said, this is England, and nicking to the keeper is as common as it gets. We think this bet is worth a look for sure because the returns are quite fantastic.
The first day of the third test between England and Pakistan provided us with the highest quality of batting we have seen in this series so far. Zak Crawley and Jos Buttler counter-attacked and put a young Pakistani bowling attack under tremendous pressure. This is the same kind of tactic that Buttler and Woakes had used in the first test when they pulled off the miraculous win.
Pakistan actually started pretty well with the new ball. They got Rory Burns early and created chances. At one stage, England was 127 for 4 with the last recognized batsmen at the crease.
Yasir Shah picked up two wickets and looked threatening but a spinner is not supposed to run through sides on Day in England. Pakistan would be unhappy about the manner in which Naseem Shah bowled.
England will come out wanting to stretch this score as much as possible while Pakistan will know that a wicket could change things around very quickly indeed.
There are a few showers expected on the morning of the match but the forecast is actually much better going forward. We should be able to get another full day of cricket in this match. We have typically seen the pitch in Southampton starts to quicken up as the match progresses and there may be a bit more in it for the bowlers today.
England has two very well-set batsmen and the all-rounders to follow. The weather is expected to deteriorate in the last two days and so England may be in a bit of a hurry to score and then get back to bowling.
Pakistan will try to attack with some in-out fields and then hopefully run-through the lower order.
England has nearly 350 runs on the board and has a bowling attack suited perfectly for the conditions. We think this rate available on them to win right now is frankly brilliant. A few more runs and the chances of a Pakistani win basically go out of the window. A draw is also going to become less likely as the weather keeps on improving.
If you have bet on England before the match started, double down, and if you thought Pakistan was going to win then this is the time to hedge and cut your losses.
England is in a strong batting position but it does not have any more batsmen to follow. A single wicket and we could see the England lower-order tumble very quickly. Chris Woakes was averaging around 7 before his magnificent previous inning. Dom Bess, Jofra Archer, and Stuart Broad are good tail-enders but the conditions may make it difficult for them to hang around too much.
We think this is a relatively safe bet and you can bank some decent money right here.
This is an event accumulator and so you only get paid if Azam scores a fifty in both innings. We love the odds that 1xBet is offering on this bet but we do not think this is a sure thing. This is for someone who is willing to take a bit of a risk. Babar Azam has looked fluent but only has one fifty-plus score so far. Can he take advantage of what looks to be good batting conditions?
If he does, you could get back close to 9x your money.
The rain robbed us of a truly wonderful contest in the second test between England and Pakistan and the third test is also scheduled at the same venue. Thankfully, the weather forecast is a lot better for this upcoming match.
England has a 1-0 lead going into this match and so it cannot lose the series. Pakistan has not lost a series to England in the last decade and this is another opportunity for it to try and level the playing field.
Since only a total of 96 overs were possible in the second test, the players are going to be very fresh for the third test. The rain may force the groundsman to opt for the same pitch for this match, although, we are still hoping for a fresh surface for this match.
England vs Pakistan 3rd Test Match 2020 is going to be played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, starting on the 21st of August 2020.
England added Zak Crawley to their lineup for the second match and he immediately showed his utility. We don’t think England is going to tweak its batting lineup at all for this match. What they should seriously look into is whether Dom Bess deserves a place in the final match. He did not bowl a single delivery in the previous match and England may just look to bolster their batting a bit.
What was encouraging or England was that its batsmen were able to play out the Pakistani bowlers relatively comfortably on Day 5 when they finally got the chance.
Batting is not going to be easy in the third test and we think England could do well to add another batsman in its side.
Stuart Broad and James Anderson bowled very well in the second test taking seven wickets between them. Chris Woakes was a bit unlucky to not have got more wickets but Sam Curran was disappointing.
Four bowlers are enough in helpful conditions but England is used to having Ben Stokes in their lineup which gives them five genuine bowlers. In his absence, Dominic Bess might just get another match.
Bowling in typical English conditions on a helpful pitch is something that Anderson and co. will be looking forward to once again.
Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, JE Root, Ollie Pope, Jos Buttler, CR Woakes, Dominic Bess, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.
Pakistan fought pretty well in the second test and would be disappointed to not have got a chance to bowl at the English batsmen. Mohammad Abbas and Shaheen Afridi looked very dangerous in the overs they bowled. There is no doubt that they are going to be dangerous in the final match as well.
Naseem Shah was once again a bit lacking in terms of the movement he generated. Pakistan may look to make a change and maybe bring in someone like Sohail Khan for the final test. Yasir Shah bowled well and looked dangerous and will continue to be the lone spinner.
Pakistan had brought in Fawad Alam to bolster the batting but his comeback began with a zero. The pressure is going to be on Alam to prove his worth in some of the toughest batting conditions that you will find.
Babar Azam is pure class and looked the most at ease out of both the teams. Mohammad Rizwan’s inning of 72 was gutsy and a bit lucky but he is going to gain in confidence none the less. Shan Masood has struggled after his century and Azhar Ali is a walking wicket right now.
Asad Shafiq is also short of runs which makes the Pakistani batting pretty vulnerable.
For Pakistan to win or have a chance of winning, someone must play an inning like what Shan Masood did in the first test. They have the bowling to give England a bloody nose but need enough runs to be able to get a win.
Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Fawad Alam, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bowl first in our opinion to make the most of the conditions.

The surface at Southampton is expected to be quick, bouncy, and offer a lot of assistance to the fast-bowlers. The weather is going to be overcast and help the ball swing as well. The batsmen are going to challenge and the conditions are not really going to change as the match progresses.
We think England is going to enjoy the conditions being so typically English. This is the equivalent of playing in the subcontinent and getting a dust-bowl. The English fast-bowlers are going to be able to rely on their experience and extract everything that the surface has to offer.
The England batsmen are also going to be better equipped and trained to score in such conditions.
Bet on England to win.
England’s batting has more depth than Pakistan and seems to better with Crawley in there. As we mentioned, the conditions are going to so foreign to most of these Pakistani players that the contest is heavily loaded in favor of England.
This is an excellent bet with a good return and one that we think is more than likely to come through.
This is a risky bet but the odds make it worth the risk. Consider the effect that the Pakistani fast-bowlers have had with the new ball and it is easy to see them nipping out an early wicket. The same could be the case with England but a better than a double return on your stake just seems too good to pass up.
A combination of conditions and the vulnerable batting lineups in both teams make this bet an attractive one. It is easy to see a couple of batsmen get stuck in and score but a wicket is always going to be around the corner.
Team totals may not get past 250-270 for either team and so you could be in for a bumper return with this bet. It is a high-risk high-reward bet so choose your stake appropriately.
