ENG vs RSA Match Prediction - Jul 22, 2022

South Africa won the first ODI of its series against England and now has a chance to win the series. England will be under pressure coming into this match. The previous loss was it's third in its previous four matches under Jos Buttler. With Ben Stokes retiring, there will be a place empty and it will be very interesting to see which way England goes.

The cricket betting sites have priced England as the favorite once more and by a significant margin. We backed the underdog in the previous match quite profitably. Let us see if any betting opportunities present themselves this time as well.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for England vs South Africa 2nd ODI 2022. The match is going to be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on the 22nd of July 2022.

ENG vs RSA Team Previews

England

England bowled quite listlessly and could have been chasing quite a bit more than 334 on another day. The addition of Sam Curran, Matt Potts, and Adil Rashid did not pay the dividends that they might have expected. In particular, it was Rashid who suffered a lot of punishment as he struggled to adapt to the sweeps that the South African batters pulled out.

England's bowling has been struggling to pick up wickets for a while now. It was the same case against India and now South Africa also seemed untroubled against the English bowlers. We would not bet on any of these bowlers right now.

As a batting unit, England did much better. It got a 100-run opening partnership, and its top-3 batters got runs, but the middle-order crumbled, and eventually, it could only get to 271. With Ben Stokes retiring, England will have to replace a gun top-order player and a very handy bowler. Not an easy task.

They could add David Willey to the playing eleven and then move up Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and Moeen Ali one position each. That would actually give a better look to the batting lineup in our opinion.

Joe Root and Jos Buttler are the two English batters that we feel comfortable betting on in this match. We are going to look for the Over/Under markets for their Total Runs and bet the 'Over'. Interestingly, England hit more sixes than South Africa in the previous match but was far behind in the number of fours.

England Playing 11

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Philip Salt, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, AU Rashid, Reece Topley.

South Africa

South Africa showed just how effective its white-ball unit can be in the first ODI. Its batting was brilliant and we think they left at least another 25 runs on the table. Janneman Malan played brilliantly for his 57, Quinton de Kock looked dangerous, and Rassie van der Dussen continued his fantastic run in ODI cricket.

With Markram transforming into a reliable middle-order batter, Miller and Klaasen can look to play the aggressive game down the order.

Andile Phehlukwayo at number 7 is perhaps a bit shaky and if he does not recover from his blow in time, We will see Dwaine Pretorius there instead.

South Africa's bowling was also quite good. Keshav Maharaj takes the new ball and will always challenge a batter like Jason Roy while Tabraiz Shamsi is the wicket-taker they need in the middle overs. Lungi Ngidi bowled with heart and Anrich Nortje ramped up the pace to wipe out the lower order.

South Africa Playing 11

Janneman Malan, Quinton de Kock, RVD Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, K Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi.

ENG vs RSA Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in Manchester are a bit overcast and there is some rain forecast on match day. We could have some interruptions or even a reduction in the total number of overs. The pitch is almost always good for batting. It has a bit of extra bounce which gives the bowlers a chance as well. England only scored 259 when it played here against India, a target that India chased down with ease.

We think a score closer to 300 or even 320 should be the minimum that teams aim for batting first.

ENG vs RSA Betting Tips

We are going to bet on South Africa to win. We think the cricket betting sites are undervaluing South Africa and the odds available on it to win are quite attractive. South Africa has a strong ODI team that is quite capable of winning this match and the series. The payoff justifies the risk in our opinion.

Bet on South Africa to win.

We have been betting against Jason Roy on most occasions that England has played. His poor run of scores can often be prolonged and with South Africa attacking him with spin early on, we are going to continue betting against him. 1xBet is offering among the best odds for this market so we are going to bet the 'Under' right here.

South Africa has Quinton de Kock opening the batting alongside Janneman Malan. If both or even one of these batters sticks around for 3-4 overs, they will score quickly and give you a great chance of winning this bet. We are betting on the South African batting and against the England bowling in this market!

    South Africa Total Fours

    Over 21.5 (1.55)

    Visit

This is one of our favorite betting markets. The South African team is composed of players that hit a lot of fours and not necessarily the most sixes. They smashed 32 fours in the previous match but not a single six. We think the Over/Under line at 21.5 is quite fair.
