ENGW vs AUSW Match Prediction - Jul 04, 2019

The Women’s Ashes are the biggest series in women’s cricket. Bigger than any other rivalry and possibly more keenly awaited than the world events in this form of the game also. The series comprises of three ODI’s and one test match between the Australian women and the England women.

The first ODI was won by Australia women in a very close contest. A couple of umpiring errors, unfortunately, highlighted the game but that is a part and parcel of the game. The loss to Australia in the first ODI means that England has no option but to win this match.

England and Australia have two of the best ODI sides in the world when it comes to women’s cricket. In fact, most of the other teams don’t even come close. A win in this contest is an unofficial tag of being the best team in the world. Add to that the history of the Ashes and we have a real keen contest to look forward to.

ENGW vs AUSW Team Previews

England Women

England women would have been disappointed at allowing Elyse Perry to run all over them at the start of their inning. It is always going to be tough to recover from 19 for 4 and in that sense, it is credible that the English women even managed to make a fist of things.

Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, Sarah Taylor, and Heather Knight were all back in the pavilion before the inning even got started. It was left to Nate Sciver to lead the recovery job along with the lower order. Thankfully for England, it possesses a deep batting lineup which managed to get a competitive total on the board.

In this match, we expect to see a better performance from the top-order. Sarah Taylor and Heather Knight are our batters to watch out for. 50 over cricket is a long time and there is plenty of time to get set and then try to score runs.

The English batters just need to see off Perry, Schutt, and Jonassen’s initial spell after which they will get plenty of opportunities to score freely.

England women bowled quite well but they were unable to get a clutch of wickets together as the Aussies managed. Any Shrubsole, Kate Cross, and Katherine Brunt were steady. Sophie Ecclestone picked up three wickets while Nate Sciver and Laura Marsh also contributed towards the end.

This match would have helped the English women realize that they are capable of fighting the Aussie women and beat them. Now, they must raise the standard of their game to avoid any openings to the Australian women.

England Women Playing 11

Tammy Beaumont, Amy Ellen Jones, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Danielle Wyatt, Fran Wilson, Katherine Brunt, Anya Shrubsole, Sophie Ecclestone, Laura Marsh, Kate Cross.

Australia Women

A brilliant opening spell by the Australian bowlers set the stage for the victory that followed. Elysee Perry, Megan Schutt, and Jess Jonassen were brilliant in the previous match. They made the most of the conditions and ensured that they were always looking for wickets.

There would a little disappointment at allowing England to come back into the match after that start but that is not really a major concern moving forward. There were a lot of things that went Australia women’s way and we think it promises a lot more hurt for England in the near future.

Alyssa Healy made 66 at the top of the order. She is rated as one of the best players in women’s cricket and her being able to get into the runs early could be an indication of how dominant she will be at the Ashes.

A number of other batters got starts but were not able to convert them into big scores. It was great to see Meg Lanning and Elysse Perry at 3 and 4. A case can be made for moving Perry to open the inning as she does in the WBBL with great success but the middle order slot suits her quite well in ODI cricket.

Meg Lanning looked in good touch and we think a big score from her is around the corner.

There is just so much batting talent in this Australian team that it is difficult to imagine a scenario where every one of them fails to score. It can happen of course but it will take some special from England to be able to keep this Australia batting down.

Beth Mooney, Rachel Haynes, and Nicole Bolton are also very good players. Any of these players in the batting lineup could easily walk into any other side in women’s cricket and be the best player there.

Australia has won the first match without paying its best cricket. It just needs to avoid becoming complacent and continue to put their best foot forward.

Australia Women Playing 11

Alyssa Healy, Nicole Bolton, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, Rachael Haynes, Beth Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Jess Jonassen, Delissa Kimmince, Georgia Wareham, Megan Schutt.

Pitch and Conditions

England vs Australia Women’s Ashes 2019 second ODI is going to be played at St. Lawrence Ground, Canterbury. The weather is expected to be nice and sunny in Canterbury on match day. We should be able to get a full day of cricket without worrying about the weather.

The pitch at St. Lawrence is expected to be good for batting and should allow the batters to play more freely than they did in the previous match. A score of 250-270 can be seen in this match.

ENGW vs AUSW Betting Tips

It is difficult to stop the Australian women’s team when they are in front. They feed off the confidence and are very good at keeping their opposition down. England has some quality batters in its side and is playing in home conditions but we think that it should put up a better fight it is eventually going to fall short.

Bet on Australia women to win.
