The T20 Blast is one of our favorite T20 tournaments. It really does bring something very different than all the others out there. A part of the charm is seeing county teams adapt to different conditions and player availabilities throughout their campaign. It ends up making each team a little vulnerable and the matches very close.
We have already seen two ties and a couple of last-ball thrillers in the Blast this season.
Now, Essex is going to be taking on Hampshire as both teams try and get their season a bit of momentum. Essex tied its match against Surry while Hampshire lost its to Sussex with one ball remaining in the match.
Essex vs Hampshire T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at the County Ground, Chelmsford on the 1st of September 2020.
The Oval can be a tough place to win at but Surrey has not been the best T20 sides lately. Essex would have gone there expecting a victory. As things turned out, a poor batting effort put them in a hole from which their bowlers managed to somehow dig them out.
None of the top-order batsmen for Essex got a start and it was only Ryan ten Doeschate and Adam Wheater down the order that managed to get Essex to a fighting total. Cameron Delport and Tom Westley are the best batsmen for the Essex Eagles and they need to start scoring some runs quickly.
The bowlers, though, did a commendable job for Essex. Shane Snater and Daniel Lawrence were the only ones that went for a few runs while all the others kept a very tight lid on things. Simon Harmer, Cameron Delport, and Matthew Quinn were the best of the lot.
The defending champs have had a rough start but managing to come away with a surprise tie may help galvanize the side.
Varun Chopra, C Delport, Tom Westley, Daniel Lawrence, RN ten Doeschate, Adam Wheater, Paul Walter, SR Harmer, Aron Nijjar, Shane Snater, Matthew Quinn.
A belligerent partnership between James Fuller and Ian Holland was responsible for Sussex being able to reach 176 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. At one stage, Sussex was 88 for 5 and struggling. Fuller smashed five sixes while Holland had two to his name as the pair really made it count for Hampshire.
Tom Alsop also scored 51 at the top of the order to give the side a decent start.
George Munsey and Sam Northeast did not get in the runs but Hampshire still managed to reach a par score and that is a big positive for the team. If the two of them can get in the runs, Hampshire may have a pretty decent batting lineup.
Three out of the six bowlers used by Hampshire against Sussex did a magnificent job. Mason Crane, Ian Holland, and Chris Wood fall into that category. They picked up two wickets between them and had a collective economy rate of just 5.00 runs per over.
That is brilliant considering the target they were defending.
Unfortunately for Hampshire, James Fuller, Ryan Stevenson, and Scott Currie went for 15 runs an over in the remaining overs.
It was an inconsistent bowling performance from Hampshire but one that did highlight the form of some of their bowlers. There is a lot to work with over here.
George Munsey, Tom Alsop, Sam Northeast, Joe Weatherley, Lewis McManus, James Fuller, Ian Holland, Scott Currie, CP Wood, RA Stevenson, Mason Crane.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first.

The weather forecast for the match day is excellent. A sunny day with a few harmless clouds floating around in the sky has been forecast. The pitch at Chelmsford is going to be pretty balanced. It is a bit on the slower side but the batsmen can score runs after getting used to the pace of the wicket.
170 is usually a good total batting first.
The Essex Eagles are a tough side to come against at their home ground. They know the home conditions very well and maximize their potential. The form of their bowlers helped them claw a tie out of nothing and we think it is just a matter of time before their batsmen join the party.
Bet on Essex to win.
