Essex

The team of Essex is still in search of its first victory of the season as they take on Kent at the County Ground in Chelmsford on the eleventh of August 2022. Essex has failed to record a single victory so far and as a result, they are lying at the bottom of the table in 8th position with just the single point they mustered as a result of the abandoned first match they participated in. The competition for the remaining matches in the race for The Royal London One Day Cup for 2022 is getting hotter every day. Essex would be keen to claim the first full points of the season. After the first game of the season for Essex was washed out against Lancashire, Essex has lost a couple of back-to-back games against Northamptonshire and Derbyshire. In this game, they have the opportunity to break the losing streak. They have the advantage of playing at home in this match. The batting order for Essex collapsed against Derbyshire which cost them the match by a thumping margin of 92 runs. However, they did not get demoralized by this and made a good comeback in their next game against Northamptonshire.

The Essex captain decided to bat first after winning the toss and his batting unit proved him right as they went on to pile up a massive first innings score of 343 runs from their quota of 50 overs. For Essex, Feroze Khushi scored a brilliant hundred. He scored 118 runs to be exact from 93 balls and was the main contributor to the Essex total. The middle order for Essex was handled by their skipper Tom Westley who scored 67 runs from 69 balls. Although they had put on a good total on the board, it was their bowling unit this time that let them down. Essex was beaten in the last over of the match. But if you take a close look at their team, you will find that the side has good depth in the batting and bowling departments. But they have failed to put everything together this season. For tackling the challenge thrown by Kent, they will have to work together as a team and work on their strengths at Chelmsford on Thursday. Kent

Kent is also suffering from the same fate as Essex despite doing a fair job with the bat. They have failed to register a single win from their last couple of outings except against Worcestershire. Kent has succeeded in winning one game out of the three they have played so far in the competition. They are currently in the 7th position in the Group B points tally with two points. Kent will be looking forward to converting their good form with the bat into a victory. Kent has had to face the same old story this year as last year. Even though their batting department is doing a reasonable job under the captain Ollie Robinson, they have been unsuccessful in converting these performances into wins. In the first game of the season, Kent registered a comfortable 7-wicket win against Worcestershire. But they went down to Glamorgan in their next outing in a close game of cricket. But again, they lost by a massive margin of 163 runs against Hampshire. The skipper Alex Blake asked the opposition in and Hampshire took full toll of the Kent bowling by putting on a whopping 396 runs on the board. The Hampshire batsmen thrashed the Kent bowling to all corners of the ground.

During their chase, Kent began well. It was a massive target to chase and the middle order could not handle it as it failed to develop large partnerships. The skipper played his part by hitting 62 runs from 43 balls however, the other batsmen in the Kent middle order could not support the cause much. Kent eventually lost the game by a huge margin of 163 runs. This massive defeat once again demonstrated the fact that Kent is heavily reliant on their top-order batsmen such as Alex Blake and Ollie Robinson. They do have a good batting order but their bowling lacks the experience and consistency required at this level. Failure of the bowling department regularly cost them matches last season and the same trend continues this year. Kent will be keen to have a plan in place for their bowling attack and will be looking to execute it.
