Barisal Bulls

Barishal will consider themselves a bit unlucky as they lost their opening match played against Sylhet despite putting up a huge first-inning score. The top-order batsmen, especially Shakib Al Hasan, were in top form as Barishal scored runs at a rapid pace during the first 15 overs.

Shakib pummelled 67 runs off just 32 deliveries, while Chaturanga de Silva and Anamul Haque scored 36 and 29 respectively. The total could have been higher if Iftikhar Ahmed and Mahmudullah had got going.

Barishal doesn’t have a strong bowling unit and that was evident from the fact that captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz used as many as 8 bowlers to try and contain the opposition batsmen but to no avail. T

he seam department appeared particularly lacking, as their main bowler, Ebadot Hossain, was taken for 30 runs in just 2 overs. As a result, Fortune lost the match by a huge margin of 6 wickets. Going forward, the onus will be on the bowlers to put up a better performance. 

Rangpur Rangers

The Riders had a tough opening fixture as they faced the defending champions for this season, the Comilla Victorians. Starting the match as the underdogs, the Riders played flawlessly to beat the odds.

Asked to bat first, the opening pair of Mohammad Naim and Rony Talukdar put up a solid opening stand of 84 runs in 9 overs, before Naim succumbed to Fazalhaq Farooqi. Talukdar went on to become the top-scorer for the Riders, scoring 67 of just 31 deliveries. He received good support from Shoaib Malik, who played a patient knock of 33.

Thanks to a great performance by the top order, the Riders went on to set an excellent target of 177 for the Victorians. Rangpur has some promising players in the middle order too, particularly Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza as well as Nurul Hasan.

The bowlers, led by seamer Hasan Mahmud, kept things pretty tight and never allowed the Victorians to get away with easy runs. Mahmud picked up 3 wickets for 20 runs, while Raza and Robiul Haque got two wickets each. If the bowling attack can keep up the consistency, the Riders can be an unstoppable force in the tournament.
