We are finally down to the last couple of days of the Vincy T10 Premier League and the things haven't changed drastically over the course of the tournament. Salt Pond Breakers started off their campaign in an emphatic manner and are still undefeated. Fort Charlotte Strikers, on the contrary, are yet to register a win. Considering their performance in the tournament so far, the Strikers would do well to avoid the wooden-spoon.
Up next in the tournament, the Strikers are set to face Dark View Explorers, who are stuck in the middle of the points table. While a win for Explorers won't really have a telling impact on their campaign, a loss can open the floodgates to push them down to the bottom. The match between the two sides is to be played at Arnos Lane Sporting Complex, St. Vincent on 28th May. This is an important match for both sides and we expect them both to come hard at each other. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Fort Charlotte Strikers have now lost all of their five matches, which speaks volumes about the kind of performances they have put. Consequently, they are languishing at the bottom of the points table with zero points and a net run-rate of -1.548, which is worst among all teams in the tournament.
Their fate in the last match was no different to their fate in the tournament so far. They were inches away from a win before it all fell apart from them. Chasing a total of 102, the Strikers didn't have a great start, but quickly found themselves on the driving seat, thanks to a superb partnership between Sealroy Williams and Gidron Pope. They needed 30 runs off the last 20 deliveries with Pope and Williams at the crease, but quick departures of Gidron Pope and Sealroy Williams left too much to do for the batsmen to follow. Kirton Lavia pushed them close with an 11-ball 16-run knock, but it just wasn't enough as they felt seven runs short of the target.
Earlier with the ball, the Strikers must have felt deja vu as their bowlers were smacked all over the park. Apart from Ray Jordan and Kirton Lavia, who both picked up a wicket each, none of their bowlers looked threatening as the likes of Hyron Shallow, Oziko Williams, and Romel Currency made merry on an excellent surface to bat on. Considering the form of Strikers' bowling, it is not going to be easy for them in the upcoming match as well. On paper, they have some powerful players, but lack of support from their lesser-known players is clearly hurting them.
Jahiel Walters, Ronald Scott, Gidron Pope, Olanzo Bellingy, Keron cottoy, Kirton Lavia, Sealroy Williams, Chelson Stowe, Sylvan Spencer, Rasheed Frederick, Ray Jordan.
Dark View Explorers had a reasonably good start to the tournament, but have not been able to put consistent performances thereafter. Coincidentally, their first match was against Fort Charlotte Strikers, the team they are up against up next, but then went on to produce a string of losses. In a total of five matches played so far, the Explorers have lost three and won two. They are consequently sitting at the fourth spot and will need to play exceedingly well to climb any further than that.
While the Explorers snapped their string of losses with a win over Grenadines Divers, they suffered a heart-wrenching loss in their subsequent match. One could argue that their loss came against the best side of the tournament, but their vulnerabilites that Explorers exhibited cannot be ignored.
Batting first on a good surface, the Explorers' batsmen struggled to score quickly despite having wickets in hand. Deron Greaves and Shammom Hooper added 47 runs for the first wicket, but they took an eternity to so. Hooper was dismissed in seventh over after scoring 32 off 26 deliveries. Lindon James smashed a couple of boundaries towards the end of the first innings, taking the team's total to 73, which proved to be a walk in a park for the Breakers to chase down.
With such a low total to defend against the solid batting-lineup, the odds were stacked against the Explorers' bowlers right from the beginning. Their bowlers, in return, showed brilliant fight as they reduced Breakers to 18 for 2 in 3.3 overs. However, they couldn't do much thereafter as the Breakers cruised to a win with ten balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.
In the tournament so far, the Explorers have struggled with their batting. Apart from Lindon James and Deron Greave to an extent, none of their batsmen have managed to score at a rapid rate. While Lindon James has shown glimpes of brilliance in his recent performance, he'll need to do a lot more to lift his team out of a mid-table rut.
Lindon James, Andrew Thomas, Deron Greaves, Cody Horne, Shammon Hooper, Sealron Williaams, Darius Martin, Ojay Matthews, Davian Barnum, Kemron Strough, Maxwell edwards.
Contrary to the historical trends, there has been a significant toss bias in the tournament so far. While it was even stevens in the earlier phase of the tournament, teams have succumbed to scoreboard pressure of late on a sluggish surface. We expect this trend to stay intact and winning the toss and batting first will be the way to go, yet again.

Generally in T10 Cricket, scores between 90 and 100 are considered to be par. However, we have seen that the par score drop down to around 85 in this ongoing tournament, largely due to the sluggish conditions. Although teams are increasingly beginning to score higher and higher, scores of over 100 have been far and few. Considering that as well as the nature of the surface, the team batting first would be happy with a score of around 95, and anything over 105 can be considered relatively safe.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy team for the upcoming Vincy T10 Premier League match between Fort Charlotte Strikers and Dark View Explorers
Based on the performance of the two sides in the tournament so far, Dark View Explorers clearly appear to be a stronger unit. However, the nature of the format is such that anything is possible. Both the sides are coming off losses in their last encounters respectively and will be desperate to bounce back. Fort Charlotte Strikers appear to be a little too over-reliant on Sealroy Williams and Gidron Pope and that could be exploited by Explorers as well. Considering that, the combination of the two sides on paper, and the recent respective forms, the Explorers are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
