Qatar T10 league began with two well fought games of cricket with team batting second winning on both the occasions. Flying Oryx defeated Pearl Gladiators in the opening game of the tournament and Swift Gallopers failed to defend a modest total against Desert Riders. These are still early days in the tournament, but points on the board are always important. Swift Gallopers will be looking to get their first points on the board when they meet Falcon Hunters in the third match of the tournament's second day.
The recently concluded match between Heat Stormers and Falcon Hunters became the first match to clock a total of hundred runs in both the innings and Falcons scripted a wonderful chase to grab two important points.
While Falcons' bowlers proved listless on a slow bowling surface, their strong batting lineup ensured that they overhauled the 103-run total at the end. They kept losing wickets at the regular intervals, but all their batsmen scored quickly and with Salman Butting playing the sheet anchor role to perfection, they got home on the last ball of the delivery with six wickets in hand.
Salman Butt, Hashim Amla, Kamran Khan, B Hayat, Mohammed Rizlan, Tamoor Sajjad, Saad Bin Zafar, W Maqsood, Iqbal Hussain, Murad Khan, Irshad Umar.
Swift Gallopers had a few major players absent in the first match and that absence was well and truly felt in their opening match. Consequently, they lost their first match and are placed at the second spot from the bottom on the points table. Although, their net run-rate is pretty poor, a couple of good perfomances should be enough to pull it back up.
Batting first against Desert Riders in their first match, their inexperience was apparent as no one except for Kamran Akmal looked comfortable in the middle. He scored 29 off 13 deliveries before getting to Mohammad Hafeez. A brief knock from Ravinderpal Singh pushed them to a total of 93, which didn't prove enough for them.
They needed a good start to defend a subpar score and they failed to do that. Sufyan Mehmood picked up Mohammad Hafeez in the third over innings of the innings and Ravinderpal Singh picked up another one in the fifth over, but Muhammad Tanveer played a blinder of an innings to take Desert Riders to a dominating win.
Jahanzeb Naveed, Sufyan Mehmood, Gayan Wimalshantha, Mughees Bajwa, Haris Butt, Kamran Akmal, Zaheer Ibrahim, Inam-ul-Haq, Sadiq NM, Zain Uddin, Ravinderpal Singh.
The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective opening matches and that makes this encounter of significant importance. While Falcon Hunters did pretty well in the first match and will be looking to carry on with the momentum, things will be different for Swift Gallopers. Comparing the two teams on paper and on the basis of their performances in their respective first matches, Falcon Hunters, with their stronger batting unit, are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
