GAW vs BT Match Prediction & Analysis

It's all happening in Caribbean Premier League 2020. With a superb win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Guyana Amazon Warriors reclaimed the third spot on the points table and will be looking to continue to strengthen their position here with a win in the upcoming encounter as well. In another match, Barbados Tridents suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of St Lucia Zouks as the Zouks defended a total that should have been chased down without any fuss.

With the business end of the tournament not far away, the upcoming match, which is to be played between Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors, holds significant importance. In all certainty, there could be a semi-final spot hinging on the result of this match. Considering the stakes involved, we expect both sides to come out hard at each other and a cracking contest is certainly on the cards. The match between the two sides is to be played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, Trinidad.

Team Previews

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Just when Guyana Amazon Warriors looked down and out, a superb knock by Nicholas Pooran not only restored their position of the points table but also their belief with the bat, which seemed absent in their last few matches. With that win, the Warriors moved to the third spot on the points table and another couple of wins should be enough to ensure them a place in one of the semi-finals.

Coming into the previous match, Guyana Amazon Warriors had a series of totals of 120 runs or less. Batting first on a slow surface, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots scored a total of 150, which appeared towering considering the nature of the surface and the form the Warriors were in. The Warriors got off to a familiar start as they were reduced to 25 for 3 even before the powerplay got concluded. Things were looking grim for the Warriors and they needed something magical from someone. And it was Nicholas Pooran, who did something that was unimaginable. On a surface where teams were struggling to put together a total of more than 100 runs, Nicholas Pooran did it all by himself. He smashed a century off just 45 deliveries as the Warriors won the match by seven wickets and with 15 balls to spare.

While the Warriors bowlers failed to do anything of significance in this match, they had been in pretty good form in the run-up to this. Imran Tahir, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, and Ashmead Nedd had all done well before this match and their performance in this match can be labeled as a small blip.

On paper, Guyana Amazon Warriors was always a strong team, but it was execution and teamwork that was lacking. Nicholas Pooran's knock would certainly instill the belief and the confidence and if the Warriors start playing to their potential, keeping them quiet would be a challenge even for the best teams in the business.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Playing 11

Nicholas Pooran, Ross Taylor, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Christopher Green, Imran Tahir, Naveen-ul-Haq, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair, Kissoondath Magram.

Barbados Tridents

Barbados Tridents' campaign turned from bad to worse as they suffered an astonishing defeat in their most recent match. That defeat pushed them down the points table, at the fifth spot, further cutting down their qualification chances. The Tridents' dismal run in the tournament is evident from their win-loss record, which is better only than St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. From a total of seven matches, the Tridents have won two and lost five.

Against St Lucia Zouks, Barbados Tridents needed 93 runs off 120 deliveries at the start of the innings - an equation that is considered easy even in worst of the conditions to bat. Fast forward a few overs, they required 30 off 41 deliveries with six wickets in hand. Still, they somehow messed up the chase and suffered the most bizarre loss ever in the history of the Caribbean Premier League.

Having two young spinners dictate terms in the first innings, Barbados Tridents appeared to be the only team that could have won that contest - for the most part of that match. Joshua Bishop and Hayden Walsh Jr. spun a brilliant web of spin to keep St Lucia Zouks in check. Zouks, the team that had four wins before the match, never looked comfortable against the Tridents' lineup.

While keeping the opponents to a score of 92 speaks volumes in itself, Barbados Tridents' bowlers were remarkably good. Barring Jason Holder, all Tridents bowlers conceded runs at an economy rate of less than six. 24 hours after he was pummeled for plenty in his four overs, Hayden Walsh returned with a superb spell, picking up 3 wickets for 19. He was ably assisted by Rashid Khan, Ashley Nurse, and Joshua Bishop, who together conceded just 49 runs in ten overs combined and picked up three wickets.

It was a strange batting display by Barbados Tridents. Apart from Johnson Charles, who scored 39 off 42, all batsmen appeared to be playing in a pressure-cooker situation, which was never there. It would be safe to say that Tridents' middle-order took that chase for granted and looked rather uninterested to chase the target down before the tables turned upside down.

Given the way the Tridents have played in the tournament so far, there aren't going to be too many expectations from them for the next match. Apart from Johnson Charles, none of their batsmen has looked threatening, barring some far and few moments of brilliance. They have a terrific bowling attack that is likely to thrive on the surface, but with batting looking in shambles, the Tridents will have a lot of work to do to make their presence felt in the upcoming encounter.

Barbados Tridents Playing 11

Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Jonathan Carter, Justin Greaves, Jason Holder, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Mayers, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr, Raymon Reifer, Ashley Nurse.

GAW vs BT Toss Prediction

There are chances of rain and thunderstorm on match day and consequently the DLS method could come into the picture. Even if that doesn't happen, dew will make batting a bit easier in the second innings. For those reasons, we think that the captain winning the toss will field first.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The last time a match was played at this venue, bowlers had a pretty good time. We are coming back to Tarouba after a pretty decent gap and the surface would have been watered down considerably. It is not expected to be as dry as it earlier was and batsmen are likely to have a better time. With dew likely to have an impact, chasing could be an easier proposition. Considering that, the team batting first would want to post a total of at least 160 runs on the board.

GAW vs BT Betting Tips

The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective previous matches. While Guyana Amazon Warriors scripted one of the highest successful chases of the competition, the Tridents failed to chase down a total that was modest by all accounts. On paper, Guyana Amazon Warriors is a stronger team, but performance on the ground is what is going to matter. Barbados Tridents will draw confidence from the win they posted in the finale of the last year's CPL. Keeping all those equations in consideration, we think that the Warriors are better placed to topple the Tridents in the upcoming encounter.

    Top Batsman - Barbados Tridents

    Johnson Charles, 3.3

Barbados Tridents' campaign turned from bad to worse as they failed to chase down a paltry total in their previous match. The only player who looked comfortable in the middle was Johnson Charles, who has been pretty consistent in the tournament. He has been the most consistent batsman for the Tridents is pretty likely to be the top batsman for them in the upcoming match as well.

Highest Score After 1st Six Overs

    Barbados Tridents, 1.91

    Visit

Although Shai Hope is a safe starter, Johnson Charles likes to take the attack to the opposition. On the contrary, Guyana Amazon Warriors' opening pair hasn't been in good form and we expect the Warriors to lose early wickets yet again. The fall of wickets is likely to have an impact on their scoring rate. Therefore, a bet on Barbados Tridents to have a better score after the powerplay seems to be a pretty safe one.

  1. Casumo

    Casumo

Players Total Runs - Corey Anderson

    Under 15.5, 1.83

    Visit

Corey Anderson is a timing player and likes the ball to come onto the bat. The surfaces in the tournament so far have been pretty slow, which is exactly opposite to what Corey Anderson likes. Besides, Corey Anderson hasn't been in good form and he has found scoring pretty difficult. Also, Guyana Amazon Warriors have pretty good spinners, some of whom thrive against the left-handers. Considering that, we do not expect Corey Anderson to score more than 15 runs in total in the upcoming match as well.
