The Colombo Kings started their Lanka Premier League 2020 campaign off with a win and even though it came with the help of a tie, it was good to see some of the more experienced players in the squad step up.
They are now going to be playing against the Galle Gladiators, a team that would have finished playing its first match less than 24 hours before this one. At the time of this writing, we do not know what the result of that match is.
Irrespective of that result, though, both teams are going to be trying to get another win under their belts.
Galle Gladiators vs Colombo Kings LPL 2020 is going to be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota on the 28th of November 2020.
We like the Galle Gladiators squad quite a lot. We think it has a great mix of youth and experience. Not only can you find some of the most talented youngsters in Sri Lankan cricket like Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Danushka Gunathilaka but you will also find legends of the game like Shahid Afridi.
We assess their squad as being a bit light on the batting. Chadwick Walton, Hazratulah Zazai, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Danushka Gunathilaka form a dangerous lineup but one that could be prone to losing early wickets.
All-rounds such as Shehan Jayasurya and Milinda Siriwardana will have to play their role and get some runs down the order. We count any runs from Shahid Afridi as a bonus now and would not advise anyone to take them into account while assessing the Gladiators.
The bowling lineup is pretty powerful led by Mohammad Amir, Shahid Afridi, Akila Dananjaya, and Lakshan Sandakan. That should ensure that the Galle Gladiators are going to put a competitive eleven on the park, no matter what happens.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Hazratullah Zazai, Azam Khan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, TAM Siriwardana, SMSK Afridi, Shehan Jayasuriya, Mohammad Amir, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Mohamed Shiraz, Asitha Fernando.
We thought the Colombo Kings were a bit fortunate to get away with a win in their opening fixture. Some good fortune and some brilliance from Dinesh Chandimal saw them chase down 219.
It took four sixes from the bat of Isuru Udana to help them tie the match in regulation time after which the Super Over went their way.
The Kings would be hoping for some more balance in the upcoming match and fewer mistakes in the field.
The batting lineup looks decent with Dinesh Chandimal, Laurie Evans, Andre Russell, and Angelo Matthews in there. Isuru Udana also must be seen as a genuine all-rounder with the levels of bowling not being very good.
Some work needs to be done on the bowling attack. Manpreet Gony was expensive and looked unfit while Dushmanth Chameera was extremely poor in his execution. Isuru Udana and Qais Ahmed help give the side some balance, though.
The batting was able to rescue the Colombo Kings from a very difficult situation but doing the same against a much better bowling attack like the one Galle Gladiators have, might be difficult.
Dinesh Chandimal, Laurie Evans, Thikshila de Silva, Andre Russell, Angelo Mathews, Ashan Priyanjan, Isuru Udana, Qais Ahmad, Daniel Bell-Drummond, PVD Chameera, Amila Aponso.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Teams will want to chase up until the pitch remains good for batting as defending is going to be tough.

It appears as if the pitch is pretty flat at the moment. Another two matches would have been played on it by the time this one gets underway but we still think the batsmen are going to be at a big advantage.
The outfield is fast and the boundaries have been pulled-in. There is no rain expected at the moment.
A score of around 180 must be seen as par for the surface, taking into account the batting of the teams.
The Colombo Kings are at an advantage because they would have had more rest between matches. We also think they have a stronger batting lineup than the Galle Gladiators. With the conditions so in favor of the batsmen, the stronger batting of the Colombo Kings has to take precedence over the stronger bowling attack of the Galle Gladiators.
Bet on the Colombo Kings to win.
