Since four out of the five teams in the Lanka Premier League qualify for the knockouts, these group matches have very little value in a real sense! The two teams are separated by just one win but the Gladiators have a better net run rate and that is unlikely to change whatever the result of this match.

The Galle Gladiators have been extremely disappointing in this season of the Lanka Premier League. Despite having a pretty decent set of players available for selection, they have failed to capitalize on their talent and get more wins.
There were seven players with international experience in the lineup that Gladiators played in their previous match. That is a solid number to have in your lineup and questions must be asked of the leadership. The batting performances have been quite poor for the Gladiators with only Kusal Mendia and Asad Shafiq playing a couple of good knocks so far.
Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz will lead the bowling effort for the Gladiators with support from Sandakan, Thushara, and Pradeep. This is a very decent bowling lineup that should be able to exploit the batting weaknesses in Dambulla Aura.

Dambulla Giants
Six losses out of seven matches are a fair reflection of the kind of cricket that Dambulla Aura has played. Their squad selection was poor and did not allow a competitive team to be put on the park. The players that were picked also did not quite live up to expectations.
The batting unit has failed in almost every match and there are only a couple of notable individual performances in the entire LPL 2022 season. Sikandar Raza, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Dasun Shanaka were all in decent form coming into this tournament but they seem to have fallen into a rut that they are unable to come out of.
A weak bowling lineup only compounds these problems further.
The fact that Dambulla Aura got its only win against the Dambulla Giants is something that will encourage them but we don't see other major positive signs for them heading into this contest.

Pitch and Conditions
The conditions in Colombo are not very good and we could have a washed out match. There is a lot of rain that has been falling in Colombo and a lot of rain is forecast for match day as well. We will have to be quite lucky for the rain to miss the ground completely or disappear during the time that the match is scheduled!
Of course, the facilities in Sri Lanka have excellent drainage and so play can resume very quickly if the rain does relent. The pitch at the R Premadasa Stadium is usually very flat and good for batting. A run rate of around 8-9 is not uncommon at all.
