Galle Gladiators

The Galle Gladiators haven’t performed to their full potential this season. They began the season on a sour note losing its first two matches, one of which was against the Kings. They did manage to turn things around in the next two matches, defeating Colombo Stars and Kandy Falcons. However, they come into this game on the back of the second set of consecutive losses.

Looking at the numbers, we see that individual players have played relatively well but the team has failed to perform as a unit. Kusal Mendis is once again the top-scorer of the team with 177 runs. Thanuka Dabare has given him good support at the top of the order while Nuwanidu Fernando has been a handy batsman lower down the order.

Nuwan Thushara while being a bit expensive has picked up wickets at regular intervals and is second on the list of top wicket-takers of this season with 10 wickets. He, along with Nuwan Pradeep has rattled quite a few batsmen this season. Asad Shafiq has recently joined the squad and looks quite promising. 

Jaffna Kings

Jaffna Kings are the defending champions for this season and have been pretty consistent with their performance. However, they did face a defeat in their latest match played against the Falcons on Wednesday.

Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama have been the two mainstays of Jaffna Kings’ batting, scoring 210 and 194 runs respectively. Shoaib Malik and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have played a couple of good innings lower down the order but haven’t been able to make big scores.

Talking about the bowling, James Fuller and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth have picked up 8 wickets each while Binura Fernando and Matheesha Theekshana have been good too. Dunith Wellalage has been a decent all-rounder for the team picking up 5 wickets and scoring runs at a decent pace.

Overall, the team appears quite well-balanced and up for any challenge that their opponents might throw at them.
