Time is of the essence for most teams in Finnish Premier League T20 as we move deep into the second half of the tournament. There is strong competition in the middle part of the tournament with most teams hovering in the range of eight to eighteen points. SKK Stadin ja Keravan Kriketti is currently leading the ladder with Empire Cricket Club right below them. The other teams, however, are a bit far from the top spot and will need to put up a string of good performances to make their presence felt.
GYM Helsinki Gymkhana Cricket Club is one of such teams and will be looking to strengthen their position in the top half of the table. In their next assignment, they are set to take on Vantaa Cricket Club at Tikkurila Cricket Ground (TCG) - Main, on Wednesday, July 15th. While there is a big difference between the standings of the two teams, the gap may not last for long should Vantaa CC registers a couple of wins in their next few matches. Considering the standings, it appears to be a mismatch, but going by the recent performances of the two sides respectively, a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Placed at the third spot on the points table, GYM Helsinki Gymkhana Cricket Club looks well set to finish in the top half of the league. However, they will be striving for the top of the table finish and are likely to be desperate to post a win in this upcoming contest. In a total of eight matches played, GYM HGCC has a success rate of 50 percent. They have eighteen points to their name and have the advantage of having played one less game as compared to the two teams above them on the ladder.
HGCC is coming off a strong win over Vantaa Cricket Club and will be looking to repeat their performance. Batting first in that match, HGCC posted a terrific total of 140 with Saif Ur Rehman scoring a fabulous fifty. Rehman, who scored 64 off 54 deliveries, was ably supported by Pankaj Saharan as the pair added 81 runs for the first wicket before Saharan was dismissed after scoring 31. Although they won the match, they would be a bit concerned as they failed to finish their innings with a flourish despite having wickets in hand.
Their bowlers did incredibly well to keep Vantaa CC from coming anywhere near the target. Faisal Shahzad set the tone for them as he dismissed RSF Koruwage and Chanaka Jayasinghe early in the innings. However, it was Jaleel Ahmed's spell that ensured a massive victory for HGCC. Just when a partnership appeared to be brewing, Ahmed picked up three wickets in quick succession as Vantaa CC collapsed under scoreboard pressure. He was well supported by other bowlers, who all bowled in tight channels and built pressure, which proved to be crucial.
In the tournament so far, Saif Ur Rehman has been HGCC's best batsmen and is currently fourth on the leading runs scorers chart. Apart from him, however, there is no one from HGCC among the top-ten run-scorers with Pankaj Saharan at 14th spot. This over-reliance on a couple of players could prove costly should HGCC lose both these batsmen early in their innings. Their bowling appears a bit more balanced with Faisal Shahzad, Jaleel Ahmed, and Muhammad Ghawas all contributing almost equally.
On paper, GYM Helsinki Gymkhana Cricket Club appears to be a fairly well-settled unit, but a couple of quick wickets can put them in a spot of bother. Going into the business end of the tournament, HGCC would need their other batsmen to step-up their game and if they can do that, they'll be a threat even to the best teams of the tournament.
Pankaj Sharan, Saif Ur Rehman, Arslan Gondal, Atti Rehman, Simaranjit Brar, Faisal Shahzad, Irfan Yousefzai, Ahmad Jaleel, Muhammad Gawas, Muhammad Hassan, Shahid Gondal.
Vantaa Cricket Club are currently placed at the seventh spot on the ladder with eight points. While their performance has been subpar, they can consider themselves a tad unlucky as they lost their way after a relatively good start. Back to back losses in their last few matches have pushed them to the bottom half of the table and they'll be itching to make their way back into the top half of the ladder.
They are coming off an embarrassing loss at the hands of GYM Helsinki Gymkhana Cricket Club, the same team which they are set to face up next. Chasing a total of 141, their batting crumbled like a pack of cards as Vantaa CC lost the match by 43 runs (D/L method). At one time, they were staring at an even taller total to chase down, but some excellent bowling by Nipuna Patabendi Nidelage helped them pull things back a bit. Nidelage finished with miserly figures of 4-0-14-1 and was ably assisted by Warsha Mohamed, who picked up two wickets. Apart from Niedlage, however, all their bowlers proved expensive and that could be a cause of concern for them going forward.
While the total was not easy to chase down by any stretch of the imagination, a couple of partnerships were all that was needed to hunt it down. However, Vantaa CC's top-order failed to show any responsibility and almost all their batsmen perished in a bit to score too quickly too early. Warsha Mohamed did well to ignite some hope with 24 off 17 deliveries, but his knock was too little to make a difference and came a little too late. After losing three wickets inside the first four overs, VCC always appeared to be playing the catch-up game, which kept going away from them.
Vantaa Cricket Club's performance has been dismal in the tournament so far and that is reflected by the individual performances of their players as well. None of their batsmen is amongst the top ten run-scorers of the tournament. Chanaka Jayasinghe, who is at the 17th spot in the leading run-scorers' chart, has been their top batsmen with 112 runs in total. Their bowling, although a tad better, has been poor as well. Ameer Hamsa Warsha Mohamed has been the most successful bowler for them and is tenth on the list of highest wicket-takers in the tournament. Nipuna Patebendi Nidelage is the 13th of the same list.
On paper, Vantaa CC is far from the best teams of the tournament. However, they have no dearth of talent available at their disposal as seen by the glimpses of brilliance their players have shown. In order to make a mark in the tournament, they would need their senior players to take more ownership of responsibility as well as contributions from the youngsters. If they can do that, Vantaa Cricket Club is more than capable to surprise even the best in the business.
Nipuna Patabendi Nidelage, Sanjeeva Peththahandi, Madura Milan Hettiarachilage, Ameer Hamsa Warsha, Nalaka Hangamuwe, Fernando Milan, Ravi Sanjeeva Kahingala, Ranuka Shiran Fernando, Tyronne Jayanath Premasiri, Chanaka Jayasinge, Ursan Tavernier.
Toss can play a crucial role, especially in an intense fixture. This match is of significant importance as both sides will be desperate to register a win. Even though the surface is unlikely to change over the course of the match, the team winning the toss is expected to bat first, primarily because of the fact that the pressure to chase even a par score could be immense.

In the ongoing tournament, not many matches have been played at this venue yet and both the sides might find themselves a bit unacquainted to the conditions. Weather, however, is expected to similar to the other venue, where most of the tournament's matches are being played. Considering the nature of the surface and the totals scored here, the team batting first should be looking to put a total of at least 130 runs on the board.
There is a stark difference between the recent performances of the two sides. While Vantaa CC have spiraled their way down the ladder due to poor performances in their recent matches, GYM Helsinki Gymkhana Cricket Club has done well and is now looking to climb further up. HGCC is a better-balanced team between the two and is coming off a superb win in their previous match. They will be riding high on confidence and with their senior players doing well, betting on an HGCC's win should be the way to go in the upcoming contest.
