GLA vs HAM Match Prediction - Aug 30, 2019

With a superb win over Middlesex Panthers, Hampshire kept themselves in contention to qualify for the playoffs from the South Group of Vitality T20 Blast. To be eligible to progress to the next round, however, they still need to win their upcoming encounter which is to be played against Glamorgan on 20th August at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Considering how Glamorgan have fared in the tournament so far, they couldn't have hoped for a better opponent in a must-win fixture. Glamorgan have failed to win any match in the competition so far and will be looking to redeem themselves by winning their last game of the season. Considering the stake involved, we expect both teams to come out all guns blazing and consequently a high-scoring contest.

GLA vs HAM Team Previews

Glamorgan

Its been a kind of season that Glamorgan would not want to remember. They have been dismal, to say the least, and are at the bottom of the South Group table with just five points to their name. They haven't won any match in the tournament with their best result being a tie.

They are coming into this match on the back of yet another disappointing result with Sussex Sharks beating them in a high-scoring encounter. Batting first, Glamorgan managed to rack up 176 runs on the board, on of their highest this season, but their bowlers made a mess of the defense as the Sharks chased it down with 19 balls to spare.

The addition of Shaun Marsh to the top of their order proved to be a blessing as he played a crucial knock of 52. Nicholas Selman was impressive as well but perished after scoring a quick-fire 42. The lack of firepower in their middle-order was once again apparent as the likes of David Llyod and Chris Cooke failed to up the ante after the departure of Colin Ingram. Even though Marsh played well for his 52, the management will be concerned about the pace at which he batted. He took 50 deliveries for his 52 and never looked in control during his pedestrian knock.

With the bowl, Glamorgan were nothing more than ordinary as they lacked accuracy and discipline required to pick wickets. Andrew Salter, who returned with the impressive figures of 3 for 37, was their only successful bowler, but he, too, was a little too expensive.

Glamorgan Playing 11

David Lloyd, Nicholas Selman, Shaun Marsh, Colin Ingram, Chris Cooke, Callum Taylor, Andrew Salter, Ruaidhri Smith, Marchant de Lange, Roman Walker, Prem Sisodiya.

Hampshire

With a decisive win over Middlesex Panthers just a few moments ago, Hampshire kept themselves hanging in the tournament, albeit by a thin thread. Considering only the points, they are currently placed at the fourth spot, alongside Middlesex Panthers and Somerset, making the result of their upcoming fixture of massive importance.

Despite Mason Crane not being fully fit, Hampshire took the risk of fielding him in their important fixture against Middlesex, and their gamble certainly paid big dividends. Mason Crane picked up two wickets for 22 runs in his four overs, and his spell never allowed the Panthers to gain momentum. Despite AB de Villiers' stupendous 52, Hampshire were left to chase a total of just 154, which they did with considerable ease.

James Vince carried his bat through while Aneurin Donald contributed with well-made 51. The opening partnership of 96 between Donald and Vince sealed the deal for Hampshire as Sam Northeast and Rilee Rossouw chipped in to complete the formalities. With their batsmen back amongst the runs, Hampshire is now looking an extremely well-balanced side and won't be easy to beat should they get into the playoffs.

Hampshire Playing 11

J Vince, Aneurin Donald, Sam Northeast, Rilee Rossouw, LA Dawson, James Fuller, Lewis McManus, CP Wood, KY Abbott, Mason Crane, Tabraiz Shamsi.

GLA vs HAM Betting Tips

Both the sides are in with different propositions in the upcoming fixture. While Glamorgan have nothing to lose and will not be under any pressure of expectations in the forthcoming encounter, Hampshire have everything to gain. Comparing the two teams on paper and the basis of performance in the competition so far, Hampshire are certainly a better side. They are also coming off a superb win in their previous match, and the momentum, as well as the other reasons mentioned above, makes them firm favorites to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
