Glamorgan got off to a disastrous start in the tournament, and things have only gone to the south for them after that. They are currently placed at the bottom of the South Group table and are desperately searching for a victory, and their upcoming fixture against Middlesex is more or less set up their fate in the tournament. They are set to host the Panthers at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Friday, July 26th. Middlesex Panthers are also coming off a loss in their previous match where the absence of AB de Villiers was felt in the middle overs. They've already won a couple of games in the season and will be looking to win another one and consolidate their position in the top half of the table.
Rarely has a team been bowled out for a total of fifty or under in Vitality T20 Blast anytime in the history of the game, let alone while chasing a modest total. Their problems with the bat only seemed to grow as their batting was dismantled in a matter of minutes by a spectacular Tom Curran hat-trick.
After a couple of poor games in the season, Imran Tahir also bounced back amongst the wickets as he found his rhythm back and picked up three wickets in an over including the wickets of Graham Wagg, Marchant de Lange, and Andrew Salter as Glamorgan slipped from 40 for 6 to 40 for 9. While it were the only the final nails in the coffin, the damage had been done a lot earlier.
Earlier with the ball, Glamorgan did reasonably well, picking wickets at regular intervals as they reduced Surrey to just 141. Andrew Salter and Marchant de Lange were the picks of their bowlers as they returned with the respective figures of 4 for 23 and 4 for 26. Their bowling has already done pretty well in all the matches gone so far for them, but it's the performance of their batting that has hurt them.

Just when Middlesex Panthers appeared to be invincible due to the immaculate hitting ability of their top-order, the absence of AB de Villiers was well and truly felt as they failed to score anything more than a modest total by all standards in their previous match, against Gloucestershire.
Batting first, Middlesex could get to only 148 for the loss of nine wickets, thanks to a couple of brilliant innings by Stevie Eskinazi and John Simpson who scored 40 and 42 respectively. Their bowlers did pretty well in return, reducing Gloucestershire to 84 for five at one stage, before Benny Howell and Jack Taylor shattered the Panthers' dream.
Middlesex played like a confident unit against Gloucestershire, like a team coming off some good matches behind their back, and this result shouldn't dent their confidence. Also, AB de Villiers is likely to return to the squad strengthening their fierce-looking top-order.

The two teams are coming off into this match on the back of similar results, but contrasting fate in the tournament on the whole. While Middlesex suffered a minor slip-up against Surrey, Glamorgan hasn't put a foot right yet in the competition. Considering the two teams on paper, Middlesex are batting heavy with their batting doing a lot better than that of Glamorgan. Their bowling, too, has done pretty well of late and with the likes of AB de Villiers and Dawid Malan present in their lineup, both of whom can turn the game on its head in a matter of minutes, Middlesex are firm favorites to win the upcoming fixture.
