About the Match
A significantly beefed up Glamorgan team thanks to its Kolpak signings will be looking to get its campaign back on track after losing last week to Essex while Somerset is still searching for its first win of the competition. With the match being played in Glamorgan’s backyard, it is not going to be easy for Somerset to turn things around here.
Colin Ingram started off the competition with a fantastic hundred and is going to be the lynchpin around which this Glamorgan team revolves. He was the second highest scorer of the competition last year as well and has a couple of his former South African teammates for company this year as well.
Jacques Rudolph may not be the first name that comes to mind when it comes to thinking of T20 batsmen but his international pedigree is undoubted and he can get the ball away at a fair clip when he gets going.
Of course, it is not just about the international players for Glamorgan. Aneurin Donald, David Lloyd, and Chris Cooke are all very good with at getting the ball away but they are not the most consistent of players.
Get Ingram early and this Glamorgan team could struggle big time.
Among the bowlers, Michael Hogan and Marchant de Lange are the two that they will look for wickets and in tough situations. Others like Timm van der Guten and Colin Ingram himself will also look to make regular contributions though.
Glamorgan can be a very destructive side on its day or collapse into a heap with ease. Their supporters will be hoping for more of the former to make the finals day.
There are no weak sides in this competition but on paper, Somerset is definitely among the least fancied ones. Corey Anderson is the only distinguished T20 player in their side apart from a few other well-regarded names.
Johann Myburgh, Jim Allenby Peter Trego, and Sam Davies are not going to put the fear of God in anyone’s hearts but they are talented players capable of turning things around in the shortest format of the game.
Hopefully, for Somerset, Anderson will be fully fit and at their disposal against Glamorgan because his absence is going to be a big setback for their team.
Roelof van der Merwe has played international cricket for two teams and is now an integral part of the Somerset setup but he would be a little disappointed with his start to the tournament. His bowling has been adequate, picking up 4 wickets so far, but his batting just seems to have fallen off a cliff.
Somerset lack the batting firepower in their lineup and the specialist death bowlers to really make a challenge in this tournament and will have to depend on individual brilliance to win them the odd match.
Pitch and Conditions
The conditions are expected to be cloudy and there is 20% chance of rain. The winds are also expected to be pretty strong, so hopefully, any rain that is there will disappear quite quickly. The pitch is always excellent for batting and it will be no different this time around.
