Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the Central Group of the T20 Blast 2020 season. They are now going to be playing against each other in Quarter-Final 3 of the T20 Blast 2020 season.
Both the teams have gone through a period of sustained success and then a bit of lull. Which team can find its peak at the right time? Let us try to have a look at their recent form.
Gloucestershire vs Northamptonshire Quarter-Final 3 T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at the County Ground, Bristol on the 1st of October 2020.
Gloucestershire won seven matches in the group stage including the only one it played against Northamptonshire. It even managed to win a very tough encounter against Somerset in its last group match and so will be very confident coming into this match.
Gloucestershire has been riding the form of Ian Cockbain this season. He is the fourth-highest scorer in the entire Blast and scored 89 in his most recent inning. He is going to lead the batting lineup with help from Miles Hammond, Chris Dent, and James Bracey.
The risk here is that the rest of the batting lineup apart from Ian Cockbain is not the strongest. Ryan Higgins, Graeme van Buuren, or James Bracey are good batsmen but they are not world-class. We can expect a few good cameos from them but a match-winning inning is rare.
Tom Smith has the most wickets to his name for Gloucestershire and is going to be very important in this match. He will have David Payne, Ryan Higgins, and Benny Howell for support. This makes the bowling attack pretty canny and effective in T20’s in our opinion.
Chris Dent, Miles Hammond, IA Cockbain, Ryan Higgins, James Bracey, Jack Taylor, Benny Howell, GLV Buuren, Tom Smith, Josh Shaw, David Payne.
Just one win from its previous five matches is not a good sign. Every team wants to be at its best when the crunch matches come along but it appears as if Northamptonshire peaked a bit too early. Richard Levi, Paul Stirling, Adam Rossington, and Josh Cobb make a dangerous batting lineup but it is far too unpredictable for our liking.
This is a lineup that can bat you out of the match in 10 overs or can collapse in a heap.
Sanderson, Buck, and Taylor are going to be leading the bowling attack in this next match. We think they are going to have their work cut out for them going up against Gloucestershire at home.
Northamptonshire is a strong team that started the T20 Blast 2020 in an unstoppable vein but has since become very beatable indeed. Finding its best form is going to be a tough but not impossible ask.
Richard Levi, PR Stirling, Josh Cobb, Adam Rossington, Rob Keogh, Saif Zaib, Luke Procter, Tom Taylor, Graeme White, Nathan Buck, Ben Sanderson.
The team that wins the toss may want to field first since defending a total can be very difficult at Bristol. The pitch does not real change much over the course of a T20 match on this venue.

There is a bit of rain around but nothing that should put the match in jeopardy. We are hopeful of getting the full 20 overs in on a surface that is going to be very good for batting. The boundaries are small and even mishits can carry comfortably over.
We think nothing less than 180-190 is going to be sufficient batting first.
We think Gloucestershire is the team to back in this contest. While both teams have a similarly strong lineup, the consistency of Gloucestershire is much better. Also, Ian Cockbain is in the form of his life and could prove to be the difference in this match.
Bet on Gloucestershire to win.
