The trend of close matches that started on the first day of the Vitality T20 Blast continued to keep fans and punters at the edge of the seats on the second day of the tournament as well. We saw a humdinger of a contest between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan before the hosts won the match by a narrow margin.
Up next in the tournament, Gloucestershire are all set to take on Sussex in a game that is not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination. The match between the two sides is to be played on 11th June 2021 at County Ground, Bristol.
Gloucestershire were the best team of their group last year and they have certainly started off in a fantastic manner. With a win in their first match, they started off from where they left in the last season. They are currently placed at the third spot on the South Group ladder, owing to their inferior net run rate, but this all can change pretty quickly.
Coming into the tournament, Gloucestershire seemed slightly over-reliant on their top-order, but their win in the first match has certainly proved that notion wrong. We saw contributions coming in from almost everyone in their batting order with Glenn Phillips top-scoring. They eventually finished with 179 runs on the board, which proved to be just enough against a spirited Glamorgan unit.
Gloucestershire saw the usual suspects shine with the ball as Ryan Higgins, Tom Smith, and Benny Howell together picked up six wickets. Although he was a little expensive, Benny Howell was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 3 wickets for 39 runs in his four overs.
All in all, Gloucestershire appear to be a pretty solid unit that would be running high on confidence. They have a batting lineup that goes deep coupled with a reliable and experienced bowling attack. Beating them is going to be a difficult task yet again in this tournament.

Sussex are one of the few teams that haven't played a match in the tournament yet. This match against Gloucestershire will be their first match and they will be looking to get off to a flying start, especially given how they did in the previous edition of the competition. They somehow made it to the quarter-finals last year, but largely struggled in their first and only knockout fixture.
On paper, the Sharks have arguably one of the most experienced opening pairs. The likes of Phil Salt and Luke Wright have loads of experience up their sleeve and that could prove to be immensely useful in this upcoming match. However, they have some of their players like Jofra Archer, Ollie Robbinson, and Tymal Mills who might be missing out due to different reasons.
All in all, Sussex have a decent side, but with Laurie Evans and Danny Briggs no longer there, they certainly have a huge void to fill. The presence of Rashid Khan certainly adds to their bowling strength, but batting is what Sussex will need to sort first. If their batsmen are able to set up a competitive total, their bowling certainly is more than capable to do the goods.
Philip Salt, TM Head, Aaron Thomason, RS Bopara, D Wiese, Delray Rawlins, Chris Jordan, George Garton, Will Beer, Henry Crocombe, Archie Lenham.
Gloucestershire are playing this match at their home turf and will certainly have an advantage of having already played a match in this tournament. Sussex are by no means a team to be taken lightly, but Gloucestershire appear to be a better-balanced side and are, therefore, our pick to emerge as winners in this important game.
