About the Match
Gloucestershire with 2 points from 2 matches are at the 5th position in the ongoing NatWest T20 Blast and will go up against Essex, who have 2 points from 3 matches and at the last position, on 24th May at Bristol. Glouces have won one match and lost one but will improve their performance in the upcoming match to continue with their winning momentum; Essex on the other hand have lost their opening two matches and have won only a single game till now but if they get more wins to their kitty, it will surely boost their confidence for the long haul. The team that can strategize well against the other and execute the plan to perfection will definitely come out trumps on Sunday.
Gloucestershire lost their last match against Sussex by 6 runs as they failed to chase down the target of 168 runs; Marshal top scored with 45 off 29 while Taylor scored 35 off 26 but in the end, they failed to reach the target. On the bowling front, Smith took 3-23 in 4 overs while Fuller and Payne took a wicket each. In their opening match, Ian Cockbain’s unbeaten 91 off 66 and Marshal’s 56 off 43 led the team to a seven run victory over Middlesex with 6 balls to spare. Overall, the team has many talented players; overseas Klinger captains the team effectively while opener Hamish Marshal showed his worth in first two matches, with his amazing shots and flicks. Cockbain who scored a career best 91 looks promising while Fuller has made a good start in 2015, taking vital scalps against Middlesex. The team has necessary fire-power and talent to win the upcoming match.
Essex won their 3rd match against Glamorgan by 5 wickets with 1 ball remaining; Ravi Bopara’s unbeaten and superb 81 off 65 guided the team to an easy win. Shaun Tait picked up 3-28 while Bopara played an all-rounder role scalping 2-25; both bowled superbly as Glamorgan were restricted to 144. In their previous match, Essex suffered their second defeat as they went down by 44 runs against Surrey. They failed to chase down the target of 205, despite a valiant effort by Ryan Ten Doeschate who scored 40 from 19 deliveries and Smith posted 44 off 35. However, the team led by Doeschate has a strong squad that includes Ravi Bopara who is back from the IPL alongside fast bowler Shaun Tait. They are hopeful that the New Zealand all-rounder Jesse Ryder and experienced batsman Mark Pettini will both be available following injury. Overall, they have the required strength and guts to challenge the opposition and win the upcoming match.
Both teams are well-balanced and have the potential to surprise the other on Sunday; although the match will be fiercely contested by both sides, we feel that Essex with team-on-paper and superior talent bolstered by will win the match on Sunday amidst a lot of fireworks across the park.
