About the Match
The Midlands/Wales/West Group in Friends Life T20 has had least number of T20 games so far in this season, but it has offered everything both: entertainment and quality in Cricket. Up next we have is the clash between the teams at almost the opposite ends of the table with Gloucestershire Gladiators taking on Northamptonshire Steelbacks on July 16th at Cheltenham. The Steelbacks are sitting pretty at second position in the points table with six points out of four matches played so far. However, things haven’t been as good for Gladiators as they’ve managed to get home in only one game and are currently lying at the bottom of the table. T20 is always exciting to watch and this game is expected to be no different.
In spite of having a solid limited overs squad, especially after the signing of Dan Christian, Gladiators haven’t produced the results their fans were hoping for. They’ve played and lost most number of games than any other side in their group with only one win in six games. Gloucestershire has lacked the consistency required in batting. They crumbled to scores of less than a hundred many times in this season and when they got good scores, their bowlers failed to defend the target. They have the firepower and experience with Michael Klinger, Hamish Marshall and Dan Christian. The Gladiators have a powerful batting lineup and no team can afford to be complacent against this decent side.
The Steelbacks are enjoying a pretty good run in this season and given the resources they have at their disposal, they’ll be fairly happy with the position they are in. The Steelbacks have won three out of their four games including their win against Glamorgan. This side enjoys a wealth of experience in limited overs cricket with players like Andrew Hall and Cameron White in their side. Kyle Coetzer has been really impressive and so has his new opening partner Richard Levi. Levi has fastest ODI century to his name, and he can destroy any bowling attack on his day. They have reasonably good bowling lineup revolving around Hall and Willey. They have an excellent side and the form they’re in, it will be a hard game for Gladiators.
These two teams have already met each other and Steelbacks emerged victorious despite putting a modest total on the board. It is a do-or-die game for Gladiators and it is imperative for them to win this game to have an outside chance to make it to the knockouts. Northamptonshire would be looking to win this game and rise to the top of the table with Glamorgan. Can Steelbacks continue their good run in the tournament? They have a decent side with excellent batting order equipped with hard hitters. The limited overs experience of Cameron White and Andrew Hall adds to their strength. The above mentioned factors make me think that Northamptonshire Steelbacks will win yet another game.
