GT vs MI Team Previews

Gujarat Titans

The Gujarat Titans are the defending champions for this season and had an excellent run in the group stages. They won 10 of the 14 matches played there and finished at the top of the table. However, they were outfoxed by the Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1, and now have to take the longer route to the finals.

Shubhman Gill has had a phenomenal season so far. He has been very consistent for the Titans in the opening slot and is currently second in the race for the Orange Cap, trailing Du Plessis by just 8 runs. While he will once again be the key batsman for his team here, he will look for better support from Wriddhiman Saha at the other end.

Vijay Shankar and Hardik Pandya have played some good innings in the middle order but more will be expected from them. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia haven’t been in the best of forms, but to the Gujarat Titans’ advantage, they have a long batting line-up. In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are having their best-ever seasons in the IPL and are the top two bowlers this year.

The duo will play an important role here against the big hitters from MI. Mohit Sharma has taken plenty of wickets too but is a bit expensive, while Noor Ahmad is proving to be a good asset during the middle overs.

The Gujarat Titans are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the league but they will need to reduce the over-reliance on Shubhman Gill when it comes to batting.

Mumbai Indians

In what has been typical of the Mumbai Indians over the last few seasons, the team seems to be peaking just at the right time after a slow start. At one stage, the Mumbai Indians seemed to be headed for a certain exit from the group stage. But a sudden surge in the form of some of its key players saw the team scrape through with a 4th place finish.

Now, with a thumping win over LSG in the Eliminator, the Mumbai Indians have once again established themselves as firm contenders for the title.

Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma will look to give the team a brisk start here. While Kishan has been hitting the ball well, Sharma has looked a bit rusty at times and will be hoping to bounce back here. Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav are in excellent form and have scored plenty of runs in the last few weeks.

They will be looking to snatch the game away from the opposition by playing some big shots. The return of Tilak Varma adds stability to the middle order. The Mumbai Indians have some big hitters lower down the order. Nehal Wadhera and Tim David have played some good cameos this season and are capable of scoring quick runs in the death overs.

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the bowling was one of the biggest weaknesses for the team at the start of the season. However, the Mumbai Indians seem to have found the right mix of youth and experience here. Piyush Chawla is the lew wicket-taker so far and will be looking to continue with his good form here.

Jason Behrendorff and Chris Jordan are likely to start with the new ball, while Akash Madhwal will once again hold the key at the end.

Each of the last 4 matches played here has been won by teams batting first. We, therefore, think that the winner of the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

While the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium has slowed down a bit from the start of the tournament, we can still expect a good batting wicket. The average first-inning score here is around 185. The pitch has a good amount of bounce and some patches of grass which the quicker bowlers can exploit.

As the match progresses, we will see some rough spots too. The weather is expected to be quite warm with temperatures of between 32-36 degrees Celsius.

GT vs MI Betting Tips

Gujarat Titans have been the most consistent of all the teams so far and have some excellent players in the team who have carried them thus far. But we are giving the Mumbai Indians an edge here as they have played better as a team. They have peaked in form just at the right time and have quite a few players who can raise their hands when the situation demands.

Bet on the Mumbai Indians to win.

While the opening pairs for both teams aren’t the strongest in the League, we expect the Mumbai Indians to put up a higher opening partnership here. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have plenty of experience when it comes to playing under pressure situations, while Saha may prove to be a weak link for the Titans.

The wicket at the Narendra Modi Stadium appears to be slowing down a bit as seen in the last few matches here. The batsmen will find it a tad more difficult to play their shots. Also, 4 of the last 5 games played here have seen at least 13 wickets fall. We are therefore backing a similar outcome here.
