About the Match
Tallawahs have 8 points from eight matches and will play against Warriors, who have six points from six matches, on 15th July at Providence stadium. In the last outing against each other, Amazon Warriors won handsomely as the Tallawahs didn’t have an answer to the dominating Warriors at any part of the game although they won the toss. Hence, the Tallawahs will be looking forward to reverse the result in the upcoming match, especially since this might be the last chance to improve their position to make it to the next stage.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
In the last match against the Tallawahs, they were put to bat first and went on to hammer 179 runs losing only 3 wickets. They capitalised on the good opening partnership provided by Simmons and Fudadin while Hodge came and plundered 65 runs from just 30 balls with three fours and six sixes, remaining unbeaten. The bowlers were stupendous, with Beaton once again striking with 4-9 while Narine and Merchant de Lange took 2 wickets each to demolish the Tallawahs and win the match by a massive 84 runs.
Although they have succeeded to dominate the Tallawahs, they need to be cautious against the onslaught of Gayle, who is capable to come up with amazing shots, and take the game away. The top order of Warriors is strong enough but they should not be complacent.
They have very good bowlers in Perumal and Lange; Narine has his disguising slow balls which can uproot the stumps of well settled batsmen and similarly, they have match winner Beaton, who was at his best in the previous match.
It is a very challenging situation for the Tallawahs, this being their penultimate match; they have the required talent but have been unable to capitalize on that in recent outings. They won the toss in the match against the Warriors and put them to bat, but had no plans to defend the decision. Their bowlers did not come upto the expectation and batsmen did not stay at the wicket to overcome the daunting task of chasing with an asking rate of nearly 9 runs per over. They lost Wallace early and Gayle failed to perform, exposing the others down the order, who crumbled under pressure.
Their dependency on Gayle is very clear and this is one of their weaknesses; the middle and lower order batsmen like Russell, Deonarine and Blackwood need to pull up their socks in the upcoming match. The bowling unit has established players like Santokie, Vettori, Theron and Taylor, who have been taking wickets but need to tighten their spells to stifle the opposition.
The pressure is on theTallawahs to perform well in all departments of the game and play with discipline; Warriors would want to repeat the earlier result but have to play with the same gust and tactics to triumph. Tallawahswill not only have to win the match but also maintain a good run rate to improve their chances and stay in the race; and we expect them to do so in the end
