About the Match
The title has eluded Guyana Amazon Warriors all these seasons despite their wonderful performance through the league; they have finished runners-up three times now and are desperate to get their hands on the coveted prize this year. Their first match is against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on 5th August at Florida. For the Patriots, the competition has never yielded favorable results and they have always ended up at the bottom of the table; the players will be motivated to try and do better this time around. With cricketing action coming to the United States, we are surely going to see fans of both these sides come out in full strength to support; the match could throw some fireworks across the park and it needs to be seen which side will win the first game.
Martin Guptill, the experienced Kiwi batsman, has been brought in as the captain of the team and he will have batsmen like Chadwick Walton, Rayad Emrit, Pakistani batsman Babar Azam, Steven Taylor from the USA and Jason Mohammad among others from the domestic circuit. Guptill himself is in good form and could lead from the front whether during a chase or while setting a target.
Sohail Tanvir, the pacer from Pakistan, Mohammad Ahsan Ali Khan and spinners Steven Jacobs, Veerasammy Permaul and Rashid Khan make up the bowling squad. They also have other resources like Assad Fudadin, Rayad Emrit, and Jason Mohammad, who bring their all-rounder skills to the table.
The team had done well past seasons under the leadership of Denesh Ramdin; Martin Guptill surely has big shoes to fill but his tremendous expertise as a top-order batsman could give them the required boost to finish on top this season. They have good resources with bat and ball, and if they keep a cool head above their shoulders, they might start the tournament on a winning note.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Chris Gayle is the star batsman in the team and could come out all guns blazing here; other overseas players like Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Nabi, and Chris Morris, they could surely put up a good show with the bat. All-rounders like Carlos Brathwaite, who is a big hitter, and Jonathan Carter add depth to the batting contingent.
Samuel Badree will lead the spin attack while others like Fabian Allen, Nikhil Dutta, who is the ICC Americas Rookie, Shamrah Brooks, Tabraiz Shamsi, Hafeez, and Nabi will provide good support with spin. Speedsters Jeremiah Louis, Alzarri Joseph, Hasan Ali, Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Morris bring variety to the attack, and they could strategize well to outwit Guptill and company here.
They have a good mix of experienced overseas players, local talent, and fresh faces, who are raring to go and help the team win right from the start.
The Patriots do have serious firepower with bat and ball, who could prove to be a formidable force to reckon with; and we feel that three-time runners-up, Amazon Warriors who also have a deep batting unit, will have a tough time to win on Saturday.
