HAM vs NOR Prediction - Aug 09, 2022

It's all happening in the Royal London One Day Cup and the fans just cannot take their eyes off the tournament. We just saw Hampshire scoring a record total to register a massive win over Kent and they will be raring to go for more. They have been brilliant so far and will be eying yet another win when they take on Northamptonshire in the upcoming match.

Hampshire and Northamptonshire are all set to lock horns with each other in what is an important match for both these sides. This match will give both these sides a chance to move higher up the ladder and that is what both these teams are desperate for at this stage of the tournament. The match between the two sides is to be played on 9th August 2022 at New Close County Cricket Ground, Newport, Isle-of-Wight.

HAM vs NOR Team Previews

Hampshire

Hampshire were never the favorites to top the table before the tournament started but with the kind of start they have gotten off to, they certainly are now. They have surprised one and all with a couple of remarkable wins with their batting and bowling both doing well. In the first match, it was their bowling that dug them out of trouble while in the second one, they batted Kent out of the equation.

As it currently stands on the ladder, Hampshire are placed second with a net run-rate of 2.070 along with four important points. Another win here will push them to the top of the table, ahead of Lancashire, and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.

On paper, Hampshire do not really have a side as experienced as some of the other sides in the tournament but they have produced terrific team-effort up until now. It was Ian Holland who stood up in their opening match and in the second match, it was Tom Prest who played a blinder of an innings. Hampshire have a tough assignment up next but if they can continue to do as they have done so far, they will be a very difficult side to get past.

Team Update: Given how they have played in the two matches so far, we do not expect Hampshire to make any changes to their playing eleven. They have done well and unless, of course, there are any last minute injuries, expect Hampshire to walk in with the same team.

Northamptonshire

While Northamptonshire have not been as good as Hampshire, they will be happy with the performance up until now. These are early days in the tournament and they already have a win to their name. From a total of two matches played, the Northants have won one and have lost one.

On the points table at the moment, they are placed at the fifth spot with two points to their name coupled with a rather poor net run-rate of -0.309. A win here will push them among the top four sides of the group, at least in the interim and that is exactly what they will be aiming for when they take on Hampshire on Tuesday.

After starting off on a rather disappointing note, Northamptonshire bounced back with a close win over Essex. Their on-paper strength and batting depth came to their rescue as they chased down a tall total against a potent side like Essex. All in all, Northamptonshire have an excellent side that can beat even the best in the business if they get into the groove. They will be hoping to improve their performance further and if they are able to do that, Hampshire will have their work cut out

Team Update: Northamptonshire will gain strength from the addition of two experienced players in Ben Curran and Ben Sanderson. However, at the same time, the likes of Lewis McManus, Saif Zaib, and Tom Taylor will not be available and that is certainly a big blow for them.

Ben Curran, Ben Sanderson, Alex K Russell, Emilio Gay, Gus Miller, James Sales, Jack White, Nathan Buck, Ricardo Vasconcelos, Rob Keogh, Will Young.

HAM vs NOR Toss Prediction

This is an important match and runs on the board can make a difference as it did for Hampshire in their previous match. Having said that, the surface will only get better with the progression of the day and no team would want to explore the unknowns by batting first. In addition to that, knowing what to chase is more often than not better than setting a total. For those and the other reasons mentioned above, the captain winning the toss is expected to elect to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

While Newport isn't a venue that is heavily used for international or domestic matches, it has a terrific sporting wicket. There will be early assistance for the fast bowlers but that will subside with the progression of the match. Batting will get easier and batsmen once set can relish the opportunities. Also, the short boundaries on offer means that batsmen can afford to take some additional risks to clear those boundaries. It will be fairly cool at the start of the day with temperatures hovering around 25 degrees. Keeping all that into consideration, we expect the team batting first to target to put a total of at least 300 runs on the board.

HAM vs NOR Betting Tips

Even though these are early days in the tournament and teams can bounce back after a poor start, no team would want to follow that route. In fact, both these sides are off to a good start each and will want to continue building on it. Hampshire have had a slightly better time and will arguably be a bit more confident team. Northamptonshire, on the other hand, have struggled a bit with the ball. For that reason and the other ones stated above, we will be placing our bets on a Hampshire win and so should you.

Ian Holland may have been wicketless in the previous match, he did bowl an excellent spell upfront. He was the pick of the bowlers in Hampshire's opening match and will be confident of putting up another superb performance. He has loads of experience behind him and should enjoy bowling against a relatively inexperienced lineup of Northants. Bet on Ian Holland to be the best bowler of the day for Hampshire.

Nick Gubbins may have not scored a towering personal score yet, he has certainly been in terrific form. He played a perfect knock in the previous match before Tom Prest took charge of things. He bats at the top of the order and has plenty of time to get set before going for the big ones. Bet on Nick Gubbins to score yet another fifty-plus score here in this match.

Will Young has been one of the most consistent players from the Northants' camp and will have additional responsibility on his shoulders in the absence of a couple of key players. He is coming off a fantastic knock in the previous match and will be raring to score another big one here. Given the experience and skill he has, he shouldn't be easy to dismiss cheaply. Bet on Young to score a fifty-plus score here for his side.
