Hampshire has effectively been knocked out of the T20 Blast with two matches still to play. It has no chance of making the T20 Blast Playoffs no matter what happens in the remaining matches. What does such a situation do to a team? Does it play freely because it has nothing to lose or does it lose motivation because it has nothing to gain?
Its opponent, Surrey, is currently sitting at the top of the South Group and is almost assured of a place in the Playoffs. One more win in its remaining two matches will seal the spot and we have a feeling Surrey will not want to leave things to its last match.
Hampshire vs Surrey T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on the 18th of September 2020.
With just one win to its name so far, Hampshire is having a terrible season of the T20 Blast. Not one batsman from its squad has managed to score more than 200 runs in total and the addition of Shaheen Afridi has not had the effect that they would have hoped for.
Afridi has picked up just one wicket in the five matches he played at an economy rate of 8.15.
James Vince and Sam Northeast are going through a terrible run of form which has left Hampshire struggling for runs in almost every match it has played. James Fuller is the side’s leading batsman at the moment, which is not a very good sign from Hampshire’s point of view.
Sure, there is talent in Hampshire’s batting lineup but the form is so poor that we would be very wary of backing them right now.
The bowling is going to depend on Mason Crane, Shaheen Afridi, and Chris Wood. Again, we know that this attack can do better but on the basis of what we have seen so far, we are not very hopeful.
James Vince, George Munsey, Felix Organ, Ian Holland, Tom Scriven, James Fuller, Calvin Harrison, Scott Currie, CP Wood, RA Stevenson, Shaheen Afridi.
Five consecutive wins coming into the T20 Blast has meant that Surrey is full of confidence. It has somehow managed to win consistently without any one of its players really having a great individual season.
Only Will Jacks has more than 200 runs to his name and although Hashim Amla has been consistent, the batting actually appears to be a bit frail on paper. Ben Foakes, Laurie Evans, and Rory Burns have had one inning of not a piece but nothing else apart from that.
That is perhaps the thing, though. One batsman from Surrey seems to stand up and score in every match which proves to be enough.
The positive way of looking at it is that most of Surrey’s batsmen have at least some runs in the tournament and the negative way of looking at it is that none of them have been consistent enough.
The real strength for Surrey has been its bowling. Reece Topley, Liam Plunkett, Will Jacks, and Daniel Moriarty have been able to pick up wickets consistently while stopping the flow of runs as well.
They will have a weak Hampshire batting lineup in their sights.
Will Jacks, Jason Roy, Laurie Evans, Ben Foakes, Rory Burns, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, LE Plunkett, Daniel Moriarty, R Topley.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first as the surface could slow and difficult to bat on later.

There are a few clouds around in Southampton but no rain has been forecast for match day. As far as the pitch goes, a lot depends on the exact surface which is played on. We saw a slow, spin-friendly surface for the first two ODI’s played in Southampton and then a batting beauty for the third one.
Hopefully, we get the latter surface for this match and can enjoy some free-scoring batting.
It is very difficult to back Hampshire in this match although Surrey is not the strongest T20 team either. Current form is everything in a condensed tournament like the T20 Blast and that is where Surrey has a huge advantage over Hampshire.
Bet on Surrey to win.
