About the Match
Friends Life T20 has been so close, that we’ve hardly seen any dead rubbers. But now, since we are moving into the final stages of the tournament, we can expect some contests which will have little to no effect on points table. Up ahead is Kent Spitfires taking on Hampshire Royals in a match which will offer a result irrelevant to the standings, but will still be a very crucial game. Hampshire will be looking to continue their winning run and keep the momentum going. Kent will play to regain their lost pride and repeat the result of their last encounter with the same team.
Under the leadership of Dimitri Mascarenhas, the Royals have been stupendous throughout. They’ve lost just one game out of eight and one was washed out due to rain. Riding on excellent Carberry’s form, their batting has complemented their bowling extremely well. James Vince has supported Michael Carberry well leading to a strong foundation in quick time early on in the innings. Neil McKenzie has been a strong pillar in the middle order and has also provided thrust whenever required. They bat deep which is clear from the fact that skipper Mascarenhas comes in at number eight. Royals have played really well in this competition and if they continue playing the same way, Spitfires will have a hard time.
This cricketing summer for Kent Spitfires didn’t turn out to be anywhere near to what they’d have liked. Instead, they are placed at last but one spot with two wins out of eight games played so far. Spitfires needed win in their last game, but they faltered and were knocked out. However, they have an opportunity to get some of the lost pride back by beating table toppers Hampshire Royals. Kent Spitfires certainly have the talent, but they’ve been unable to show that on field. Adam Riley has been good in the bowling department supported well by James Tredwell. As far as their batting is concerned, this is where they’ve failed. They still have batsmen like Darren Stevens who can change the course of the match on its head. If they perform as they did in the games they won, they can certainly stop the Royal Rampage.
Hampshire has only lost one game in this season and that loss came against Kent Spitfires. Kent won two consecutive games after that, but lost the plot against Surrey Lions. Can Spitfires once again stun Hampshire by repeating their spirited performance? Its surely possible, but highly improbable. Hampshire Royals have lost only one game, although against Kent, but look too good to lose another. Cricket is a game of uncertainty and uncertainly rises even more in a T20 game, but I believe that Kent Spitfires will have a tough time and Royals will cruise to yet another victory.
