About the Match
Hampshire Royals and Kent Spitfires will meet in an important clash of South Division in Friends Life T20. Kent is yet to kick-start their campaign and will be hoping that on Sunday, 21st July, their losing streak comes to an end. This match would be played at Royals’ home ground, and in front of thousands of passionate supporters, the home team will love to continue their winning run and cement their place at the top of the table. For Kent, it may be their final chance to have their qualification hopes hanging, although by a thin thread. A win will keep Hampshire at top spot whereas there would be no change in Kent’s standings if Hampshire loses this encounter.
The Royals have played six games in this season and are yet to be on the losing side. The worst result they’ve had this summer is rain abandoned match at Chelmsford. Other than that, they’ve won all their games and most of them being convincing ones. Their main pillar of success has been Michael Carberry, who as an opener has scored plenty of runs in all three formats. With Carberry at the top, Hampshire has enjoyed a cracking start more often than not. They have decent bowling attack with plenty of options in Tanvir, Mascarenhas and Danny Briggs. With brilliant batting lineup and superb bowling attack with Tanvir and Briggs, the Royals can really trouble Spitfires on the match day.
Kent has had a forgetful outing so far in this competition and would love to turn the tables starting from this game. Out of five games they’ve played, they have lost all of them and that too without putting up any fight on most of the occasions. Spitfires reached finals in earlier editions of T20 league, but since 2009, they haven’t even reached the finals, let alone win it. It is imperative that they win this game with quarters already looking far in the sight. Adam Riley has really impressed in this competition, but he just hasn’t got enough support from other bowlers except Tredwell. Tredwell continued his good form with the ball as he conceded only 19 in his four overs and picked up a wicket in the last game against Essex. Kent is a good side and if their batting fires, they can get their campaign off to a late but solid start against the Royals.
Royals have won the competition twice in last three years and have made it to quarterfinals in all of last four FLT20 editions. Kent Spitfires face a colossal task to beat them and bounce back in the tournament. Can they beat reigning champions in a do-or-die game? Spitfires have made plenty of mistakes and as a result of that, they are yet to get off the mark as far as a win is concerned. On the contrary, the Royals are still unbeaten in the tournament, and with the form they are carrying, it would be hard for any team to beat them. Hampshire Royals are certainly the firm favorites for this game.
