About the Match
The match between Hampshire and Glamorgan is between the two most successful teams, at least in terms of matches won, of the South Group. The result will not change Glamorgan’s position at the top of table irrespective of the result but a win for Hampshire will catapult it from 4th
on the table to a clear 2nd
It is no surprise that Hampshire is doing well in the NatWest T20 Blast considering that they added two world class players through the Kolpak route. Rilee Rossouw and Kyle Abbot could walk into most international teams right now and along with other international talents like James Vince, George Baily and Mason Crane make this Hampshire unit a formidable one.
The Batting unit for Hamshire is just now getting into top gear with Vince, Bailey, and Rossouw all hitting some runs in the recent matches. All three of them have the ability to clear the field with ease or bat through the overs if necessary.
Vince has 312 runs to his name, Rossouw 255 and Bailey 225 right now and all three of them would be keen to add some more in the upcoming matches.
Shahid Afridi has had a terrible run with the bat with a highest score of 18 but his 11 wickets in the tournament at an economy rate of 7.62 have been invaluable to the team.
Only Mason Crane has more wickets in the squad, 12 with Kyle Abbot and Gareth Berg on 11 wickets each.
The Hampshire team has most of the bases covered and it is just a question of executing their plans in the matches up ahead.
Both Glamorgan and Hampshire have 5 matches a piece but it’s the 4 no-results that have propelled Glamorgan to the top of the table.
While some people may look at it as free points for Glamorgan, we are of the opinion that they actually lost points because of the no results since they would have won most of them.
The reason behind Glamorgan’s success this year has been their awesome batting. It is led by Colin Ingram who has two centuries to his name and a total of 330 runs from just 8 innings. Jaques Rudolph is also having a productive tournament at the top of the order while Aneurin Donald has also hit top form in the last few matches.
Behind this top-3 is David Miller, easily one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball and an omnipresent threat in the middle order. Players like Cooke, Salter, and Wagg to follow are all competent but Glamorgan fans would be hoping that they do not have too much to do in this match.
On the bowling front, it has been all about the duo of Michael Hogan and Merchant de Lange. The pair has taken 23 out of the 43 wickets that have gone to Glamorgan bowlers this season.
Lange with his pace is very difficult to face in the latter overs although there is a slight risk of him going for runs if his radar is not quite on point.
Glamorgan is looking for its 6th
win this season, something that they have never achieved before and is well on their way to the finals.
Pitch and Conditions
A clear and sunny day has been forecast on the day of the match, something that fans will be very happy to hear. This is set to be a batting exhibition between two strong batting sides and we are sure that they will get a flat pitch on which to go crazy. 200 should be the bare minimum that teams look for batting first.
