The scheduling of matches in BBL 2020-21 has been a bit weird. As a result, we have the Hobart Hurricanes and the Adelaide Strikers playing each other for the second time at this very early stage in the tournament. In fact, this is going to be the second match total for the Adelaide Strikers!
It gives both teams the chance to adjust their tactics a bit and see if they can make a better fist of things.
The Hobart Hurricanes are unbeaten in the Big Bash season and can be seen as favorites ahead of this match.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at Aurora Stadium, Launceston on the 15th of December 2020.
The Hobart Hurricanes won their previous match against the Adelaide Strikers by 14 runs but the victory was much more comprehensive than that. Darcy Short top-scored with 72, Will Jacks played very well for his 32, and Colin Ingram batted quite nicely as well.
We have already seen Tim David strike the ball well consistently this season and Peter Handscomb is a very good player to have in the middle-order.
With Wright, Faulkner, Ellis, and Botha to follow, the Hurricanes seem to have more than enough batting talent in their lineup.
We would have liked to see another power-hitting all-rounder in the lower-order but that is not going to be a problem is the other batsmen do their jobs.
Riley Meredith is has had a great start to his BBL season this time around. He picks up wickets early and is able to bowl at high speeds every time he is brought on. An Australian recall cannot be far away sure.
Johan Botha bowled pretty well in the previous match while Nathan Ellis, James Faulkner, and Scott Boland have all been on point as well.
D'Arcy Short, Will Jacks, Colin Ingram, Ben McDermott, Peter Handscomb, Tim David, James Faulkner, Johan Botha, Nathan Ellis, Scott Boland, Riley Meredith.
The Adelaide Strikers went into the previous match knowing that their batting depth was a bit compromised and will remain that way until Travis Head returns to the squad.
They lost wickets early and were reduced to 78 for 7 at one stage. Some very good cameos from Daniel Worrall and Danny Briggs got them within 14 runs, but anyone who actually saw the match knows that the Strikers were hopelessly outclassed.
It is just their second match, though, so we do not expect too many changes to their playing eleven.
Phil Salt, Jake Weatherald, and Matt Renshaw are the top-3 with Harry Nielson, Jonathan Wells, and Ryan Gibson as the backup.
Renshaw played very well and we know what Salt can be capable of. However, this is not a batting lineup that inspires too much confidence right now. Most of the players are too inconsistent and the depth in batting is just not there.
A collapse always seems around the corner and you cannot depend on your tail-enders to bail you out too often.
Most of the bowlers had a tough outing. They went for runs early and could not pick up wickets. It was only during the end of the Hobart Hurricanes inning that the Adelaide Strikers managed to pull things back.
Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle need to lead the way otherwise the Adelaide Strikers are going to struggle to make too much of an impact.
Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey, JW Wells, Ryan Gibson, Rashid Khan, Daniel Worrall, Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Danny Briggs.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Launceston is not an area that sees too much high-quality cricket and so the surface can be a bit hit or miss. Knowing the target to chase should be seen as a big advantage.
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
The pitch in Launceston is a drop-in pitch and has been pretty unpredictable in the past. We think it could be a bit on the slower side and give the bowlers more of a chance. The outfield is pretty small and so we could see a lot of big hits too. The only unknown is uneven bounce. Hopefully, it will not make an appearance but if it does then the batsmen are going to have a very tough time
A score of around 170 should be seen as par.
We are going to stick with the Hobart Hurricanes in this match as well. There are not going to be any major changes in the playing eleven for either team and the focus is going to be on the execution.
The surface may make Rashid Khan more effective but the Hobart batsmen were able to play him with ease in the previous match.
