With yet another loss in the Big Bash League, Hobart Hurricanes seem to be on the brink of elimination. Another loss in the tournament and they will become the second side to be eliminated after Melbourne Renegades. They will be up against Adelaide Strikers in their upcoming match, which is expected to be game-changing for at least one of the two sides. A win for Adelaide Strikers, who are coming off a superb win over Brisbane Heat, will push them to the second spot on the ladder, whereas a win for Hobart Hurricanes will give just them enough to fight for survival in the tournament. Considering that both the sides have a lot to play for, we expect them both to come out all guns blazing and therefore a cracking contest is certainly on the cards. The match between the two sides is to be played at North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground, Launceston, on 19th January.
Hurricanes had a decent start to the tournament, but a poor run in their recent matches has left them with probably too much to do to qualify for the semifinals. They have seven points to their name and with just four matches to go for them, they need to win all their matches to have an outside chance to qualify for the next round.
In their last few matches, the Hurricanes have been dismal. Their performance has actually spiralled downwards with every passing match and could consider themselves very fortunate to eke out a point from their match against the Sixers. Before their Sixers' match, which was called off due to rain, they were handed a heavy defeat by perth Scorchers.
Chasing a total of 175 against the Scorchers, their batting fell like a pack of cards with none of their batsmen able to challenge Scorchers' bowlers. In the absence of D'Arcy Short, the Hurricanes have experimented a lot at the top of the order and unfortunately for them, none of their experiments have worked out. Their bowling, however, has done pretty well in the tournament and if their batsmen can play to their potential, they will not be an easy team to deal with.
Matthew Wade, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, David Miller, GJ Bailey, J Doran, Clive Rose, Thomas Rogers, Nathan Ellis, Qais Ahmad, Scott Boland.
Adelaide Strikers were dealt a huge blow by Brisbane Heat in their last to last encounter, but they bounced back brilliantly in their next match, which, too was against Brisbane Heat, as they bundled Brisbane Heat out for a total of 100. As it stands, they are placed at third spot on the points table with 11 points and a fantastic net run-rate of 0.664, which is second only to that of Melbourne Stars.
Bowling first against the power-packed lineup of Brisbane Heat, the likes of Micahel Neser and Rashid Khan got them off to a brilliant start as they got rid of AB de Villiers and Max Bryant both inside the first four overs. Chris Lynn tried hard to revive Heat's innings, but O'Connor picked him in the eightth over of the match and it proved to be a steep climb for the Heat thereafter. Neser and Agar returned with a couple of wickets each and Liam O'Connor impressed one and all with a three-wicket haul.
Teams rarely fail to chase a total as low as 100 in T20 Cricket and it didn't turn out to be any different for Strikers either. Phil Salt and Jake Weatherald looked in their absolute best as they knocked off the total with more than nine overs to spare and no wickets lost.
Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, TM Head, JW Wells, Matthew Short, Harry Nielsen, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle, WA Agar, Liam O'Connor.

The two sides are placed at almost the opposite ends of the ladder and are coming off contrasting results in their recent matches. Albeit for different reasons, both the sides will be desperate for a win in this match. Considering the two sides on paper and on the basis of recent performances, the Strikers look better-placed to emerge on top in this upcoming fixture.
