HBH vs MLR Match Prediction - Dec 24, 2022

The Hobart Hurricanes will be playing against the Melbourne Renegades in this next match. The Hurricanes have put together a strong squad and seem to be the favorites at all the cricket betting sites for this match as well. That is a bit strange considering the Melbourne Renegades have won all three of their matches and have looked quite impressive as well. In fact, at the time of this writing, the Melbourne Renegades remain as the only unbeaten team in BBL 12.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Renegades BBL 2022-23. The match will be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on the 24th of December 2022.

HBH vs MLR Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes have lost two out of their first three matches and there would be a few flutters in the camp. There is a lot of quality in this team, at least on paper, but it has not really translated so far. A lack of runs from Darcy Short and Ben McDermott is the obvious concern but even the fast bowlers have lacked the kind of effectiveness that was expected.

Nathan Ellis and Riley Meridith were both brilliant for the Hobart Hurricanes in the last couple of seasons. This season so far, Ellis has picked up just one wicket in three matches and is giving away runs at 10.27 an over. Meridith has picked up four wickets but is also giving away runs at 9.54.

Matthew Wade has shunted up and down the batting order and the Pakistani overseas players have not quite set the BBL on fire. Still, Shadab Khan is reliable as a bowler and Asif Ali gave us a slight preview of what he can do in the previous match.

Patrick Dooley and Tim David are the two players that we have been impressed with so far and think could have a lot more left in them for the upcoming matches.

D'Arcy Short, James Neesham, Caleb Jewell, Shadab Khan, Timothy David, Asif Ali, Tim Paine, Joel Paris, Nathan Ellis, Paddy Dooley, Riley Meredith.

Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades seem to find a way to win even if they have not been the most convincing. The West Indian duo of Andre Russell and Akeal Hosein helped them escape from a tricky situation in the previous match. Hosein has been brilliant with the ball and is also very useful with the bat.

Andre Russell (do we really need to say anything about him??) smashed four sixes as his first four scoring shots in the previous match. He is batting with freedom and is also bowling regularly. If he remains fit, Russell is going to contribute in most matches without any doubt.

We like the fact that the Renegades have Mujeeb ur Rahman and Kane Richardson in their lineup. These are two excellent T20 bowlers and give the Renegades a lot of flexibility with the ball. If Aaron Finch, Fraser McGurk, and Nic Maddinson can start contributing with the bat, the Renegades are going to be tough to beat.

HBH vs MLR Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. The team batting first has won nearly 56% of all the T20 matches (international and BBL) at this venue.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain forecast in Hobart and that is excellent news. The temperatures should be quite comfortable as well. The pitch at the Bellerive Oval always has some pace and bounce on offer. It also has some small boundaries that allow the batters to really go after the bowling. The average score is around 160 but that may be a bit higher at the start of the season.

HBH vs MLR Betting Tips

The Hobart Hurricanes are a strong team and playing at home. The price that they are being offered at, though, is not very acceptable to us right now. With their top order not firing and the depth in the batting lineup not translating to massive scores, we think they are susceptible. The Melbourne Renegades have an excellent bowling attack and while their batting is not the best, it has done the job in the first three matches that they have played!

The Bellerive Oval is one of the highest-scoring venues in the Big Bash. There are a lot of sixes hit here thanks to the small boundaries and the pace on offer. We think betting Over 11.5 is a good option.
