HBH vs MLS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 30, 2019

HBH vs MLS Match Prediction - Dec 30, 2019

The Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars have both won two out of the three matches they have played which is a pretty good start to the Big Bash. They are right next to each other on the BBL league table and will now be aiming to make a move towards the very top.

This match is going to be the second time these two teams are playing against each other in BBL 09. The first contest went the way of the Melbourne Stars who demolished the Hobart Hurricanes by 52 runs. A bit like that previous match, this upcoming contest between the Hurricanes and the Stars is also going to be played at a venue not known for hosting cricket matches.

Questions about the kind of surface the teams can expect will make this match all the more intriguing.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Melbourne Stars BBL 2019-20 is going to be played at the Aurora Stadium, Launceston on the 30th of December 2019.

HBH vs MLS Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes won an important match against the Melbourne Renegades thanks to some runs from their main batsmen. Darcy Short resumed his prolific run-scoring while Ben McDermott and David Miller also got in the action.

The Hobart Hurricanes depend heavily on runs from Darcy Short and would like him to stay in good form for as long as possible. Short likes the ball coming on to the bat and tends to struggle when there is some help for the spinners.

Launceston is going to have a drop-in pitch and we have seen on many occasions that the pace in such wickets is not very good.

Short, Milenko, Jewell, and McDermott could all struggle in such a situation.

The Hurricanes added George Bailey to the side, a very wise move, and have a decent amount of depth in their side with the combination they last played.

The Hobart Hurricanes have a very good bowling attack and can pose some serious questions for the Melbourne Stars. Clive Rose and Qais Ahmed will take up the spin-bowling duties while Nathan Ellis, Rilee Meredith, and James Faulkner provide compelling seam bowling options.

Darcy Short can also roll his arm over in case there is some extra help for the spinners.

Hobart Hurricanes Playing 11

D'Arcy Short, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, David Miller, GJ Bailey, Simon Milenko, James Faulkner, Nathan Ellis, Clive Rose, Qais Ahmad, Riley Meredith.

Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars could have had three wins from three matches with a slightly better fielding effort in their previous game. They ended up four runs short in a game where they gave up at least 25 runs more than they should have.

The Melbourne Stars added Dale Steyn and Nathan Coulter-Nile to their side to strengthen their bowling. They already have Sandeep Lamichhane, Adam Zampa, and Daniel Worrall to provide them plenty of quality.

The Melbourne Stars will not mind playing against the Hobart Hurricanes on a wicket that could offer some spin to their slower bowlers as they have plenty of options to use.

We think some changes need to be made to the Melbourne Stars batting lineup, though. Hilton Cartwright has not been performing at number three and could may be used a bit lower down the order. Ben Dunk has a history of scoring runs up the order and could be better served there.

With Nic Maddinson struggling, Peter Handscomb just getting into his stride, and Ben Dunk not getting enough opportunities, there seems to be an over-reliance on Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell for the runs.

If one more of their batsmen can start to score runs consistently then the Melbourne Stars are going to be very difficult to stop.

Melbourne Stars Playing 11

Nic Maddinson, Marcus Stoinis, N Larkin, Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dunk, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, D Worrall, DW Steyn, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in Launceston are expected to be good for cricket weather-wise but the wicket is a big question mark. We have not seen drop-in pitches of the highest quality so far and that worries us. The drop-in pitches have been slow and overly helpful to the spinners.

Another match where a total of 140-150 may be difficult to chase seems likely.

HBH vs MLS Betting Tips

The Hobart Hurricanes enter this match with a win in their previous match while the Melbourne Stars have been very impressive in every match that they have played. We like both these teams in terms of the balance they possess but think that the Melbourne Stars are just a bit better suited for the slower wickets.

The Melbourne Stars have better spin bowling resources and more batsmen who are comfortable against the turning ball.

Bet on the Melbourne Stars to win.
