HBH vs PER Match Prediction - Dec 19, 2022

The Hobart Hurricanes and the Perth Scorchers are getting ready to face off against each other. Despite the fact that the Hurricanes have lost their first match and the Scorchers won theirs, the cricket betting sites still have the Hobart Hurricanes as the favorites.

That is probably because on paper, the Hurricanes have assembled one of their strongest squads ever and the Scorchers are without a number of players because of injuries.

HBH vs PER Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes were set a tough target by the Melbourne Stars in their previous match and could never really get going. Ben McDermott, Darcy Short, Matthew Wade, and Tim David all got starts but no one really carried on and converted it into a big one.

The batting lineup is very impressive on paper. Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Jimmy Neesham, and Tim David are all prolific six-hitters that have very high strike rates and can clear the boundaries easily. It will be an interesting experiment to see how this lineup actually turns out in practice.

We think Shadab Khan and Asif Ali might struggle a bit on Australian pitches and that Matthew Wade is not the gun T20 player that everyone seems to treat him like nowadays. Having a terrific bowling lineup is something that we value a bit more and the Hurricanes have that as well.

Shadab Khan, Nathan Ellis, and Riley Meredith all bowled decently in the previous match but would expect more of them. The Hobart Hurricanes are well-balanced and a strong team but just a bit overpriced right now for our liking.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers won their previous match in characteristic style. They started poorly with the bat and seemed set for a below-par total. The middle order then fought back and helped the Scorchers claw their way to a par total. The bowling lineup then just tore through the opposition and helped the Scorchers get away with a relatively comfortable win.

Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Andrew Tye, Ashton Agar, and Matthew Kelly form an all-international bowling lineup. This is always going to be the biggest strength for the Scorchers and will allow them to defend par scores on a lot of occasions.

The batting lineup is less convincing but there is a lot to like there also. Adam Lyth can be a rocket up top and Faf du Plessis has some valuable experience. Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, and Aaron Hardie are all decent batters but it is pretty obvious that one of these batters needs to have an outstanding batting season for the Scorchers to be able to get enough runs.

The depth in the batting is something that will work in favor of the Scorchers especially as Hardie and Agar are going to be available for most of the season.

HBH vs PER Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. Launceston is not a venue used very often and so the pitch can be a bit tricky. Knowing your target is going to be a big advantage here.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in Launceston are pretty good for cricket. The temperatures are comfortable, the sun will be shining, and there should be no interruptions. The pitch at Launceston can be a bit hit-and-miss. Uneven bounce and a lack of pace has made batting difficult here in the past. However, the boundaries are short in size and if the pitch is better for batting, a lot of runs can also be scored.

HBH vs PER Betting Tips

We think the Perth Scorchers have a good chance of winning this match. We like the odds being offered on them to win and think their lineup is being a bit underestimated. The Hobart Hurricanes have picked a strong team but we are not sure how well they actually gel together as a unit and whether their players are the best for the conditions in Australia.

Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
