The Hobart Hurricanes finally managed to end their losing streak and beat the fancied Sydney Thunder team. That win has put the Hurricanes in the fifth position. The league table, though, is so close that a win in this match will see the Hurricanes rocket up to second place.
Occupying that second place right now are the Perth Scorchers. All of their six wins have come in their previous seven matches and so they are really finding the right gear at the right time.
The Perth Scorchers can help protect their position a little with a win in this match otherwise they are going to be vulnerable to being overtaken by the other teams.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Perth Scorchers BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne on the 22nd of January 2021.
The Hobart Hurricanes played very well to win their previous match. The star performers were Ben McDermott with his 96 from 56 balls and Scott Boland who took four wickets. They both helped cover up the faults and weaknesses of the other players, something that the Hobart Hurricanes will be well aware of.
This season has not been the best for Darcy Short and as a result, the Hobart Hurricanes have struggled to find a consistent opening partnership. Will Jacks has been too inconsistent for our liking as well.
Ben McDermott and Dawid Malan are the two big wickets that the Scorchers are going to be after. If these two do not score runs then the task for the Hobart Hurricanes is going to be very tough.
Peter Handscomb and Tim David are dangerous players but they have also been underwhelming over the course of BBL 10.
Rilee Meredith and Scott Boland will lead the bowling attack with Nathan Ellis tasked with bowling at the death. Sandeep Lamichhane and Darcy Short are the spinners for the Hurricanes.
This is a strong team but one that has been in poor form in recent times and we are not sure if they have turned the corner just yet.
D'Arcy Short, Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott, Dawid Malan, Peter Handscomb, Tim David, Will Jacks, Nathan Ellis, Scott Boland, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane.
The Perth Scorchers are one of the most powerful batting lineups in the entire tournament. They are without Mitchell Marsh but his return is imminent and he is going to immediately make the Scorchers even more powerful.
Liam Livingstone has been absolutely brilliant to watch at the top of the order. His ability to hit sixes at all times of the inning is a rare talent. You can be sure that he is going to clear the boundary at least once if he is at the crease for even a short period of time.
Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, and Cameron Bancroft (until Mitchell Marsh returns) form a brilliant batting lineup that is more than capable of out batting the Hurricanes.
The bowling is led by Jhye Richardson who is bowling with real fire. He has returned to his best and it is just a matter of time before he is back in Australian colors. Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed, and Aaron Hardie form a very competent bowling unit as well.
The fact that the Perth Scorchers played and won their most recent match at the DOcklands Stadium must be seen as an advantage as well.
Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Colin Munro, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, AJ Turner, Aaron Hardie, Jhye Richardson, AJ Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Fawad Ahmed.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. The pitch at the Docklands is a bit on the slower side and so the spinners will be pretty effective. Chasing any decent total is going to be pretty tough in our opinion.

The Melbourne Derby was played out at the Docklands Stadium before this match and the pitch was very slow. The ball kept sticking in the wicket and getting the big hits away was difficult. This is why batting could be a bit tough as the match progresses.
The size of the boundaries is pretty small, though, and that will keep the batsmen interested. In general, though, we think this is going to be a match in which the bowlers will dominate for large parts.
A score of around 170 should be seen as a very good score batting first.
These are not the conditions that the Perth Scorchers enjoy but we believe they have enough quality in their squad to be able to adapt. Their batting is more powerful and the bowling is very good as well. They should be able to get the better of the Hobart Hurricanes, a side that has been struggling in recent matches.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
