HBH vs SYT Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 28, 2018
Big Bash League 2018-19 has been throwing up some surprises so far and the BBL league table looks a bit topsy-turvy right now. This BBL match between Sydney Thunder and the Hobart Hurricanes is a clash between two of the top-3 teams in BBL 08 right now. Neither of the teams has been defeated so far and both of them look as prime contenders in this early stage of the race.
Of course, as well all know things can change quickly and this BBL season is quite a bit longer than the last one.
One of the teams is going to be leaving the match with a perfect record and a clear place at the top of the table. Which one will it be?
HBH vs SYT Team Previews
Hobart Hurricanes
The Hobart Hurricanes seem to have picked up from where they left off last season even as some other pre-tournament favorites have struggled. The people responsible for this excellent start are recognizable and somewhat predictable faces.
Darcy Short is the highest scorer in the BBL at this point in time and has looked very good in both the matches he played. It was the BBL where Darcy Short scored a mountain of runs in the past and we don’t want to bet against him doing it this time as well.
Sydney Thunder has a number of good spinners with which they will try to get Darcy Short out early. His record against spin is not the best so this could be something to watch out for.
Mathew Wade, Ben McDermott, and George Bailey are very highly rated T20 players as well. We are not sure where Alex Doolan fits into this lineup but maybe the Hurricanes know something that we don’t.
The Hobart Hurricanes also have an excellent bowling attack this year. Jofra Archer continues to be a superstar in t20 cricket and can be relied upon to get his four overs in without too much trouble. Archer bowls with pace and has a searing Yorker that can be very difficult to guard against.
With the addition of James Faulkner to the side and the presence of the experiences Johan Botha, the Hobart Hurricanes have a lot of depth in all aspects of the game.
Hobart Hurricanes Playing 11
Matthew Wade, D'Arcy Short, Alex Doolan, Ben McDermott, GJ Bailey, Simon Milenko, James Faulkner, Johan Botha, Jofra Chioke Archer, Clive Rose, Riley Meredith.
Sydney Thunder
Sydney Thunder sits at the top of the BBL table right now and we think it is completely deserved. They have been very good in all disciplines and are making the most of the resources at their disposal. Sydney Thunder also knows that Jos Buttler and Joe Root are only going to be a part of the side for the first half of the tournament so they would want to win as many matches as they can right now.
Shane Watson has been superb at the top of the order and we feel a really big inning is around the corner. He has been striking the ball well and his partnership with Jos Buttler is one of the biggest strengths for Sydney Thunder.
Jos Buttler scored 63 runs in the last match and looked in terrific form. He is a difficult batsman to stop once he gets going. He is our pick to be the highest scorer for Thunder in this match.
Joe Root has looked a bit out of sorts in the middle order and perhaps Sydney Thunder can be more flexible with how they use him. Sangha and Sams have been very effective at the end of the inning and promoting both of them above Root may not be a bad idea if the situation demands it.
We knew that Sydney Thunder had a good spin attack coming into this contest. Fawad Ahmed has been brilliant, Chris Green continues to do what he does well, but it is Daniel Sams that has been the surprise package.
His six wickets coupled with the late order runs he has been getting make him one of the smartest acquisitions of the BBL so far. We would keep an eye on him for any potential man of the match award bets that may come up.
All in all, Sydney Thunder has a lot going for it and its current run of form seems sustainable to us.
Sydney Thunder Playing 11
Jos Buttler, SR Watson, Callum Ferguson, JE Root, Jason Sangha, Daniel Sams, Nathan McAndrew, Christopher Green, Sam Rainbird, Jonathan Cook, Fawad Ahmed.

Pitch and Conditions
The BBL match between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder is going to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The weather forecast for Hobart seems pretty good for match day. We should have a fair, sunny day with very little chance of rain.
The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is excellent for batting. It does not offer much assistance to the bowlers and allows the batters to really take advantage of the short boundaries.
HBH vs SYT Betting Tips
This is a tough match to predict. Both the teams are in excellent form and have a settled lineup. The senior players on both sides are doing well. There are no major deficiencies in the balance of either side also. This is why we looked at the match winners in each side and we believe Sydney Thunder is loaded with more of them right now.
Back Sydney Thunder to win.
