HBHW vs MLRW Match Prediction - Nov 03, 2022

It’s fair to say that the Hurricanes aren’t having the best season ever with only two wins, but if they’re bad, then the Renegades are even worse.

The Renegades have lost five straight games and picked up just a single victory. Melbourne is absolutely desperate for more wins and sits last in the league, while the Hurricanes are doing okay at fifth place but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Will the Renegades pull together for a convincing win? Or will the Hurricanes dispatch their opponent easily and climb the ladder?

Hobart Hurricanes Women

The Hurricanes aren’t exactly terrifying, either, but still far more competitive than the Renegades. Hobart’s last three matches have been quite up and down, with a recent loss to the Sixers, a cancelled game due to rain, and a win over the Thunder.

We’ve liked the form of wicketkeeper/batter, Mignon du Preez, who has an average of 33.13 and manages to pick up double figures in almost every match, though rarely over 30 runs. She’ll need a few games in the 40s and 50s to really make a batting impact.

There’s been good form from the likes of Lizelle Lee and Heather Graham with the bat, although we’ve been disappointed with captain Elyse Villani. She’s arguably one of the most experienced batters in the squad, but her recent performances have been underwhelming, as she’s scored only 16 runs in her last four matches.

If the Hurricanes want to improve, then the bowling needs to go up a notch, especially from Hayley Jensen, who has 2/46 in her last four matches. She’s keeping the runs low, but the wickets aren’t really falling.

Heather Graham and Maisy Gibson will likely need to take the bowling burden, as they are by far the most impressive. Graham’s 3/15 and Gibson’s 2/15 are the best they’ve done all season.

Melbourne Renegades Women

While it’s true that the Renegades had some bad luck by losing star player Harmanpreet Kaur for the entire year with a back injury… they still shouldn’t be this bad!

The Renegades did sign Sri Lankan allrounder Chamari Athapaththu as a substitute, but she has been less than impressive in her first two games, scoring just 24 runs and has not even been given the chance to bowl yet. We thought she’d provide more power out of the gates, but perhaps she needs time to adjust to her new team.

Both the batting and bowling have been pretty poor for the Renegades, as they just can’t seem to find consistent batters for big totals, nor can they trouble any opposing batters. In their last game, they allowed the Sixers to score 188 runs, while only managing 151 themselves. There’s just no fight in this team right now.

The only batter on the squad that anyone can really trust at the moment is Carly Leeson, who has picked up a total of 156 runs this season. Her 52 runs against the Sixers is a good sign of things to come, as she’s hit double figures four times out of her last five matches.

Captain Sophie Molineux is not inspiring in the field or with the bat, as she’s scored only 23 runs from four matches – that’s just not going to cut it in a competitive league like the WBBL. Perhaps it’s time for someone else to open the batting with Hayley Matthews, who can give you 35 runs one day and then zero the next.

Courtney Webb has shown signs of brilliance, especially her 47*, but she’s fallen back to Earth lately with only three runs in her last two matches. If Webb and Leeson can have great games, then that’s the only hope for the Renegades.

No one is scary with the ball, either, as both Georgia Prestwidge (0/67 in last three games) and Matthews (1/64 in last three games) are being knocked around the park and providing no threat.

HBHW vs MLRW Toss Prediction

The Hurricanes are 7-1 when batting first against the Renegades, so they’ll certainly want to keep this up if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The Blundstone Arena offers some decent bounce and spin, but games typically reach around 160 in a T20 game. Teams usually like to bat first here.

HBHW vs MLRW Betting Tips

It could be a low-scoring game unless someone on either team has a standout match, however, we still trust the Hurricanes to win this one. They’ve got some good pieces like Graham and Lee, and the team is in decent form despite an up and down schedule.

The Renegades just don’t inspire confidence and it will be another big loss for the team.

Bet on Hobart to win.
