HBHW vs SYDW Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes Women

Hobart lost its second match of the tournament, played against Perth, but came back strongly in the very next match, defeating Sydney Thunders by 49 runs. Asked to bat first, Hobart gave Sydney a stiff target of 145 runs, and bundled them out for just 95, greatly improving its NRR. Their latest match was abandoned due to rain, and they shared points with Perth Scorchers. As a result, Hobart is 4th on the points table, with a narrow 1-point lead over Adelaide.

Hobart’s batting has been the biggest let-down this season. Lizelle Lee is the top-scorer for the team but has managed to score just 75 runs from the 3 innings. The middle order has been pretty disappointing, with none of the batters scoring big runs.

Much had been expected from the new captain Elyse Villani, but she has scored just 17 runs from 3 innings. Heather Graham and Molly Strano have picked up 5 wickets each, but have failed to instill a sense of fear in the opposition.

Sydney Sixers Women

Two-time champions Sydney Sixers began their campaign on a strong note, winning the first 3 matches. However, they faltered in the last match, losing to Adelaide by a narrow margin of just 3 runs. Nevertheless, they are 3rd on the points table, just 2 points behind the leaders Brisbane Hurricanes.

Ellyse Perry and Erin Burns have performed consistently well in the middle order, scoring 141 and 143 runs respectively. Sophie Ecclestone and Maitlan Brown have taken 8 wickets each, and are among the top wicket-takers this season.

The openers however have often failed to provide the team with good starts. Alyssa Healy has managed to score just 51 runs so far at an average of less than 13.

HBHW vs SYDW Toss Prediction

Since this is the first match of the season at the Eastern Oval, not much is known about how the pitch will play through the day. The team winning the toss will decide whether to bat or bowl depending on the conditions on match day.

Pitch and Conditions

As mentioned earlier, not much is known about the pitch in Ballarat. With this being a day game, and weather expected to be overcast throughout this week, we are likely to see the ball swing and have some movement off the seam. We might see some interruptions due to rain, and the DLS might come into play, which is usually an advantage for the team batting second. So this is something that the punters should keep in mind before placing wagers.
