About the Match
The third season of the Big Bash League is here and fans are gearing up for some great cricketing action down-under this holiday season. Hobart Hurricanes will play Adelaide Strikers on Dec 22, Sunday in their opening match at Hobart and both teams have good resources to start the tournament on a winning note. While Hobart has the home advantage, Adelaide being the underdogs will like to bring out their best and turn the contest in their favor; it’ll be interesting to see the two sides battle it out in tomorrow’s match and the supporters will be there in full strength to cheer their respective teams.
George Bailey is likely to lead the side, at least for the first few matches as he gets some days off from the Ashes series that will resume after Christmas; and with a great performance in the tests, he is fully equipped to provide the impetus to the team. Sohaib Malik has also been included in the team and being a top-class player, he is also expected to make good of his tremendous experience and skills here; he was the leading scorer in this year’s Carribean Premier League and will definitely put up his batting prowess on display. Bowlers like Joe Mennie, Xavier Doherty and Doug Bollinger will look to bring their skills to the table and will like to prove themselves here. The team also has key resources like Travis, Tim Paine and Owais Shah who will put their best foot forward to win it for their team. Overall, the team has a good set of players who can put up a great performance and win matches.
The team wasn’t very successful in the last two seasons of the BBL and is hungry to excel this time; captained by South-African Johan Botha, the side has many talented players like Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson, Phillip Hughes and Shaun Tait who have done well in this format of the game recently. Bowlers like Kane Richardson, Jon Holland and Adam Zampa all-rounders like Matt Johnston, Gary Putland and the captain himself will look forward to giving their best and winning matches this season. A lot is expected from Alex Hales on the batting front and Adam Zampa with the ball; and while the team has prepared well for the league, they will need to strategize well and play collectively as a team to make it to the top four.
While both teams had a rough time last season, they have geared up to do well here and will put up a tough fight in the first match tomorrow. Hobart has a good mix of experienced, talented and young players and under Bailey’s leadership will definitely be a tough side to beat. While Adelaide too has its own set of positives like talented players who have good performances to back them up and experience of playing in T20 competitions overseas, Hobart has the home advantage and is looking better placed to win this match.
