About the Match
The second match of the CLT20 league will see IPL runner-ups, Kings XI take on Hobart Hurricanes at Mohali on 18th Sep. The team from down under was the runner-up in last year’s Big Bash league and they will be enthusiastic to do well in the Indian conditions as well. It will be interesting to see the two sides playing to their strengths and knowledge of their opponent’s tactics; the contest will be a fierce one with both teams having extraordinary talent and the determination to succeed.
Their strength is in their bowling with players like Bollinger, Doherty, Hilfenhaus and Joe Mennie bringing their expertise to the side. Tim Paine must have a strategy in mind to overcome the tactics of his countrymen on the opposing side and along with established players like Ben Dunk, Travis Birt, Ben Laughlin and Shoaib Malik, he must be prepared to take on the onslaught of the Kings XI batting strengths. Malik and Aiden Blizzard have been in good from with the bat and along with the strong middle order, they will put up a good show to build the foundation either batting first or during a chase. It’s very crucial for the players to understand the conditions of the field and execute their plan to perfection against the might of the Kings XI Punjab, which has done exceptionally well in this format of the game just recently. The bowlers must be patient and keep their spells tight, without giving any room for hard-hitters like Maxwell, Miller and Sehwag to go for the big shots. The Hurricanes will need to keep a positive attitude and come out all guns blazing if they want to start the campaign on a winning note.
Kings XI Punjab
George Bailey has been a very successfully captain in the T20 format as seen during IPL and other leagues; he will lead a side that consists of Glenn Maxwell, who had a great run this season smashing away sixes and boundaries at will, David Miller, another hard-hitting batsman and Mitchell Johnson, the speedster who can provide regular breaks with his wicket-taking abilities. The team has established players like Sehwag, Balaji and Thisara Perera, who are great assets bringing their talent and experience to the table. Youngsters Manan Vohra, Mandeep Singh, Akshar Patel, Rishi Dhawan and Karanveer Singh will be eager to perform well for the cause of the team and grab this opportunity to showcase their skills. Overall, this side has a strong batting line-up and the bowlers can pack a punch with a good strategy in place; Bailey will need to bring his kills as a leader to the fore and inspire his mates to do well in the tournament no matter what the challenges are ahead.
While Kings XI has a great team composition, Hurricanes are not far behind when it comes to delivering the results; though the contest will go down to the wire, we feel that Kings XI definitely have a slight edge here and clearly are the favorites to win this match.
