About the Match
With 4 points each on the table, Hurricanes and Northern Districts meet on 23rd Sep at Raipur for the ninth match of the CLT20 series; both teams defeated Cape Cobras in their last matches while the Hurricanes also suffered a loss against Kings XI in the previous match. Though the competition is still in the early stages, both sides would be eager to continue with their winning momentum and climb up the points table; it will be interesting to see which team emerges victorious on Tuesday.
Chasing 184-run target against the Cobras, Aiden Blizzard’s superb 78 off 48 balls saw the team through to victory with 1 over to spare; he partnered with Wells to put up a 65-run stand for the 5th wicket and earlier along with Ben Dunk, added 40 runs to the scoreboard. Dunk also has been in good form, scoring 54 off 35 balls and the duo showed some great batting skills exhibiting their will power to keep the team ahead no matter what the challenge. The bowlers continue to give away too many runs and need to be more disciplined with their line and length; Bollinger, Hilfenhaus, Mennie and Laughlin provided the regular breaks but they need to work better at restricting the opponents too with the run flow. Paine couldn’t score many runs in both the games played till now and will need to lead from the front, inspiring the team-mates to do better. Shoaib Malik too needs to keep his nerves together and start performing with the bat; overall the team has the required talent and determination to succeed.
They have just played one match but already proven to their opponents that they are here to win the challenge; posting 206 runs against the Cobras last week and then winning the contest by a massive 33 runs by D/L method in a rain curtailed match to score 4 points. Williamson has been in terrific form and he continued his good performance in the first group match for the team by scoring an unbeaten 101 off just 49 deliveries, helping the team set a massive target of 206 runs. He performed well in the qualifiers too and will be a strong pillar for the team in the matches to come too; Anton Devcich also batted well, continuing his good form by scoring a well-made 67 off 46 balls and the duo can be a threat to any of the strong in-form bowlers in the competition. They posted a terrific 140-run opening stand and built a solid foundation for the team; Watling too performed well by coring 32 off 20 balls, keeping the scoreboard going. While the Cobras suffered due to the rains, the Knights’ bowling squad made things even more difficult for them as Boult and Kuggeleijn took a wicket each demolishing the hopes of the opponent. This team packs a strong punch and it is a formidable force to reckon with, even posing a threat to good teams like the Hurricanes.
The contest will be fiercely fought as both sides have a strong batting line-up and the bowlers to do the job; though Hurricanes will be eager to continue winning, Northern Districts, who recently annihilated their opponents, are better placed to win the match on Tuesday.
