About the Match
The Hurricanes will host the Thunders on Saturday at the Bellerive Oval Ground in a day match of the ongoing BBL series. While the hosts have 3 points on board with an NRR of -0.846, Sydney Thunder is at the bottom of the table and remains without any points from 5 matches played till now. Hurricanes have faced 4 matches so far and are placed second last on the points table; it remains to be seen if the visitors can open their account here or will the hosts start to move up the table with a convincing win here.
The Hurricanes suffered a disappointing loss against the Scorchers in the last match when they were defeated by just 6 runs; coming so close to a win, they weren't able to finish off strongly after chasing the target of 154 runs with a lot of confidence for most part of the 2nd innings. While Dunk and Paine started well posting an opening stand of 35 runs, Shoaib Malik and Shah posted a 51-run partnership for the 4th wicket; however, with the duo's dismissal, the rest of the batting line-up couldn't stand the pressure and gave up easily in the end. Earlier, the bowlers didn't get success till the 8th over and though Hilfenhaus, Laughlin and Bollinger took a wicket each, they couldn't restrict the opposition from scoring the big runs and ended up facing a huge total. The batsmen looked confident to achieve the set target but lost the way in the middle; they will now look to redeem themselves with a win here.
The Thunders have had a disastrous campaign so far and even though Michael Hussey tried his best in the recent matches, the team has not yet learnt to turn around the results in their favour. They are yet to win a match in this tournament and will need to perform better to get there. In the last match, Hussey scored 60 runs off 37 balls in the chase of 166 runs against Brisbane Heat but his valiant efforts went in vain as none of the other batsmen gave any support and except for Khawaja and Hussey, all of them were out for single digits by the 18th over for 117 runs. The bowlers gave away too many runs although Nannes took 3 wickets and Sandhu claimed the wicket of Pomersbach; they were not disciplined and run leakage cost them the match. The players need to pull up their socks and give better performances from here on if they want to keep their hopes alive.
The visitors are yet to win a match this season and they would do themselves proud if they open their points tally here; the Hurricanes are hungry for a win after their recent loss and will look forward to score an easy win. With the home advantage on their side, Hobart Hurricanes look better placed with a good set of resources to win this contest.
