About the Match
Scotland and Hong Kong each have only one fixture left in Group B where the outcome of the game will not affect either team’s qualification to the next round since neither has won a single match so far in the tournament.
The race to progress to the Super 10 round of the World T20 for the Scottish and the Hong Kongese has already come to a halt. However, this fixture is a chance for the contesting squads to secure two points along with some pride before heading home.
It is hard to separate the two teams which carry more or less the same record in the recent past. The two sides met back in July 2015 in a two-match T20 series that ended in a stalemate.
Scotland Cricket Team:
Scotland hasn’t had much success recently and been already disqualified from the World T20
after losing the first two matches in Group B. the upcoming fixture against Hong Kong is a consolation element before the team heads back home.
The mediocre Scottish team has had a poor start to the year, winning only two out of the six fixtures they have hustled in. Such a result is no less than a surprise since Scotts have been around cricket for a while now and the matches they have succumbed to have been played against the teams that do not even have test caps.
Nonetheless, in the two matches they won, the Scotts went batting first. Undoubtedly, the team has an attack that can defend a good score. Both those games featured a batting surface. Nagpur, on the other hand, is very helpful for spinners and medium pacers.
Furthermore, Scotland lacks a robust inventory of players who could be destructible in any aspect of the game. Continuing to rely on mid-level cricketers, Scotland needs to step up to the task and find more depth in their squad in the country.
The moderate and halfhearted performance against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in the opening fixtures of World T20 is a testament to their batting and bowling lineup. Although the team has been pretty solid in the field but to win a match against all the way, it won’t be enough.
Hong Kong Cricket Team:
Hong Kong, on the contrary, is a more balanced team in comparison with Scotland. They have talented batsmen as well as quality medium pace bowlers who can take wickets.
Hong Kong has emerged on the international level only recently and showed versatility and depth in their squad. The Hong Kongese have won three out of its last 11 fixtures. It certainly is not an out of ordinary performance.
However, the three matches in which they triumphed were due to an impressive batting performance that helped in chasing down those hefty totals without many hiccups. Now, this does not only depict a solid batting show, but there is vigor in the team which provokes self-belief to take on any side regardless of how bad the situation is.
Hong Kong has an edge over Scotland in the sense that it harnesses the talent available all around the world. Currently, players from more than 4 nationalities are appearing in Hong Kong’s national squad.
Hong Kong has the upper hand, but with a little extra spice, the Kongese can wreck the Scottish hands down
