It's only been a few days since Mumbai Indians won the Indian Premier League and the interest among the other smaller T20 leagues in India has already started to grow. Saurashtra Premier League got off to a rather anticlimactic start with both matches on the first days resulting in one-sided affairs. The third match of the tournament is set to be played between Halar Heroes and Gohilwad Gladiators on 16th May at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Saurashtra. With the tournament progressing ahead at a reasonably good pace, we are more and more likely to encounter some nail-biting clashes and this contest promises to be one such fixture.
Halar Heroes are one of the only two teams which have gotten off the mark in the points table. They registered an excellent win in their first match of the tournament, over Kutch Warriors in what turned out to be a low-scoring encounter.
Batting first on a tricky surface, Halar Heroes got off to a reasonably good start with skipper Vasavada leading from the front. He missed his half-century by six runs, but his 28-ball 44 proved to be vital in Heroes' win. He was well-supported by Vishvraj Jadeja who provided impetus to the innings with his 22-ball 35.
While their batsmen played an instrumental role in taking their score to a reasonable one, it was their bowlers who were responsible for their win. After playing a superb knock in the first innings, skipper Aarpit Vasavada played a key role with the ball as well as he picked up three wickets for 15 runs in his four overs spell. Their new ball bowlers bowled will nice rhythm and maintained pressure in the earlier part of the second innings which eventually proved to be a game changer for them.
Aezaz Kothariya, Arpit Vasavada, Harsh Anghan, Vishvaraj Jadeja, Harvik Desai, Krunal Karamchandani, Parth Chauhan, Dev Dand, Kuldeep Sharma, Pranav Nandha , Vivek Agath.
Only two days have elapsed in the tournament with four different teams getting the game time. Gohilwad Gladiators are yet to get a game to their name and their upcoming fixture will be the first time they'll feature in this competition.
They have a decent team on paper with quite a few players having experience in playing a good amount of domestic cricket. They'll be relying on Kamlesh Makvana who has been a vital cog in Saurashtra's bowling lineup for so many years. He has more than 200 wickets to his name and could very well be a game-changer on his day.
Other than him, Hardik Rathod could play a key role with the bat considering his experience in the domestic circuit. They have plenty of young and talented players and it will be interesting to see how they fare in their opening match of the tournament.
Abhel Karetha, Abrar Shaikh, Bensiyon Songaonkar, Kishan Parmar, Krishnakant Pathak, Chirag Sisodiya, Vihar Jadeja, Hardik Rathod, kamlesh makwana, Sagar Bhojani, Vandit Jivrajani.
The two teams are almost at par with each other at least on paper. While the Heroes have the services of Aarpit Vasavada and Jadeja, the Gladiators will be heavily reliant on Kamlesh Makwana and Hardik Rathod. The Heroes already have the experience of playing one game in the tournament which can be crucial in the upcoming encounter. Therefore, we think that the Heroes are better placed to win the upcoming encounter.
