About the Match
Having won their opening game against Shivamogga, Hubli Tigers have 2 points in their kitty and are placed second on the table; they will face Bijapur Bulls, the current champions, on 19th September at Hubballi for their next match. The Bulls suffered defeat at the hands of Panthers by 5 wickets after failing to defend 137 runs; they will be motivated to do better and make a comeback here. Hubli Tigers, on the other hand, had defeated Shivamogga after chasing down a lowly target of 130 runs, although unconvincingly and not with as ease as they'd have liked to, and they will be eager to continue with their winning momentum on Monday.
Speedster Sreenath Aravind put up an exceptional bowling performance as he took 3-16 in 4 overs to stifle the Shivamogga batsmen; along with support from medium pacers Hoover and Negi, who took 3 wickets between them, Hubli restricted the opposition to 129 runs. Mohammad Taha opened the chase confidently along with Reddy; the duo added 34 runs opening stand while captain Kunal Kapoor top-scored with a well-made 35 from 30 deliveries to take the team safely to victory.
Middle order batsmen like Bharath, Negi and Chethan William can try to stabilize the innings by keeping the scoreboard ticking while Hoover, Kappor, Reddy and Taha will focus on building a strong foundation whether batting first or during chase.
The bowlers are in good form and led by Aravind’s pace attack, can try to contain the Bulls; Shivil Kaushik and Prasad bring their spin tactics to the table and they put up economical spells in the last game. Overall, they have the required firepower to win again on Monday.
Opener Ravikumar Samarth posted a brilliant 64 off 47 to give the team a solid start when they batted first against Belagavi Panthers; Avinash, Chipli and Arshdeep Singh combined well to keep the runs coming but they could manage to put up only 137 runs in the end. The spinners fought bravely with Khadir registering a superb 3-18 while Shekavat claimed 2 wickets, but the others failed to impress with the ball and they lost the match by 5 wickets.
The batting line-up has talented players like Robin Uthappa, who can lead from the front with his hard-hitting skills that has helped him emerge as a proven match-winner many times. All-rounders like Abhimanyu Mithun, Cariappa and other middle-order batsmen can focus on building steady partnerships in the upcoming match.
Naveen was excellent with his medium-paced bowling, succeeding in containing the run-flow of the opposition; along with Mithun and Farooqi, they can try to demolish the Tigers here. Cariappa, Khadir and Shekavat bring the spin tactics and can combine well to pull off some surprises here.
Hubli Tigers clearly have the psychological advantage here after putting up a match-winning performance in their first match; however, Bijapur Bulls won’t lie down quietly after their heart-wrenching loss and have the resources to strategize well and emerge victorious on Monday
