About the Match
Hubli defeated Panthers in the last game by 4 wickets to gain 6 points and climb up to the 2nd position; they will take on Mangalore, who have only 3 points and are placed seventh, on 25th September at Hubballi. Mangalore lost against Shivamogga by 7 wickets and they will need to start performing better in order to keep their campaign alive; Hubli, on the other hand, has registered two successive victories and is high on confidence to take on challenges in the upcoming match.
Openers Karun Nair and Gautam posted a superb 69-run stand against Shivamogga; however, the others in the middle-order except for Nidesh, who scored 32 off 18, were dismissed for single digits and they could muster only 143 runs in the end. Bhareth, More and Shashi Shekar took a wicket each but they weren’t sharp enough to stifle the opposition and lost the match by 7 wickets.
In the earlier match against Rockstars, they put up a tremendous show with the bat as Shekhawat scored 106 off 61 to steer the team to 195 runs batting first. Bhavane and Basavraj played useful knocks while the bowlers provided quick breakthroughs, and helped win the match by 53 runs. Mitrakanth Yadav took 2 wickets with his spin bowling while medium-pacers More and Bhareth continued with their wicket-taking abilities, claiming 2 scalps each.
While the batting line-up has good players and depth, they can try to be more consistent in getting the runs on board; with a well-balanced bowling squad consisting of spinners and pacers, Mangalore surely can try to emerge victorious on Saturday.
Chasing 177 runs against Panthers, Mohammad Taha yet again built a solid foundation with a well-made 43 while Negi kept the momentum going with an unbeaten 57 and ensured to take the team across the finish line with just 1 ball to spare. Players like Bharath, William, Hoover and Ashraf contributed well to keep the runs flowing while the bowlers had earlier provided regular breakthroughs to restrict the opponents to 177.
In the match against Bellary, all-rounder Chethan William took 3-20 with his medium pace and also posted a superb 28 off 14 to steer the team towards victory by helping chase down the reduced target of 139 runs with ease. Mohammad Taha shone yet again with the bat as he scored a well-made 52 from 36 while Kapoor and Reddy contributed well to keep the scoreboard ticking. Sreenath Aravind and Hoover have also been in good form, taking regular wickets while others like Nisar, Kaushik and Negi add depth to the attack.
Hubli has done well to win the last two matches which have catapulted them to the top half of the table; with their boosted morale and a pool of talented players, they are well placed to win again.
Mangalore is low on morale but they can put up a stiff challenge here to Hubli; however, we feel that with the deep batting strength and a good combination of pace and spin, the hosts are better placed to emerge victorious on Sunday
