About the Match
Hubli defeated Mangalore by 5 wickets to garner 8 points and occupy the 2nd place; they will face Mysuru, who have 10 points after winning their fifth game and are on the top of the table, on 28th September at Hubballi. While the Hubli batsmen chased down 174 runs successfully against Mangalore, the Mysuru bowlers put up a tremendous effort to defend 142 runs against Panthers. Both teams have done well till now and will be motivated to continue with their winning momentum; it needs to be seen which side can cleverly use its resources to dominate on the field.
Kunal Kapoor led the team from the front as he scored a superb 65 off 46 while chasing down 174 runs against Mangalore; Negi gave good support and posted an unbeaten 53 off 33 to steer them across the finish line. Others like Manjesh Reddy and wicket-keeper batsman played useful knocks to keep the scoreboard ticking; earlier, the bowlers provided regular breakthroughs to restrict the opposition. Hoover registered 3-15 in 3 overs to demolish the Mangalore top-order while spinner Ashraf took 2 wickets and all-rounder William took a wicket but they had to face a competitive total.
In the match against Panthers, Mohammad Taha and Negi kept the runs-flowing by scoring 43 and 57 runs each while the lower-middle order played useful knocks to get to the 178-run target and win the match by 4 wickets just in the nick of time. Earlier, Aravind, Nisar and William provided regular wickets but the others proved to be expensive.
The batting line-up is deep with players like Taha, Kapoor, Negi and others being in good form while all-rounders William, Hoover and Ashraf can try to steady the innings from the middle. With a good combination of pace and spin, Hubli can try to defeat the table toppers on Wednesday.
Spinner Jagadeesha Suchith, who claimed a superb 4-26 against Panthers, stunned the middle and lower middle-order of the opposition to help the team register a massive win by 34 runs. Medium Pacers Suraj Yadav and Vijay Kumar were exceptional as they took 5 wickets between them and also stifled the Panthers in their run-chase; Koushik and Bhatkal add variety to the pace attack and can help the team overcome the Tigers in the upcoming match.
While Manish Pandey and Jonathan contributed with 40+ runs each batting first, the others put up a dismal show and they were all-out for 142 runs on the board against Panthers. In the game against Bijapur Bulls, the batting line-up had struggled to get the big runs but thanks to a superb 61 off 41 by Bhatkal and an unbeaten half-century by Joshi, they won the match with 2 balls to spare.
Spinners Gowtham, who took 3-23 against Bulls, and Suchith are in very good form and can outwit the opponents here too; the pace department is also providing consistent breakthroughs and can be vital to their win again.
Although Mysuru has tasted more success than Hubli and after winning 5 straight games are favourites here to win, we feel that Hubli with the home advantage and an in-form batting line-up can stop the winning juggernaut of the Warriors and emerge victorious here
