The ICC World Cup 2019 has been short on closely contested matches so far even though only the top-10 teams have qualified for the even this time around. Unfortunately, we don’t think India vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be the match that changes that trend.
India is unbeaten in the tournament and the only points it has dropped have been due to rain. Afghanistan has lost all of its matches by a big margin and has even failed to be competitive. This is a contest between teams at the opposite ends of the spectrum.
Of course, these are the kinds of matches where an upset would be greatly appreciated by the entire cricketing world. Is there anything to suggest that Afghanistan may be able to pull off something special against India and pull off the biggest victory in its cricketing history? Let’s find out.
India vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, on the 22nd of June 2019.
Everything seems to be going to plan for India in the ICC World Cup 2019. They have won all of their matches convincingly and are almost assured of a place in the semi-final. Most of their ‘tough’ encounters are done and now it is a matter of doing the basics until the semi-final stage.
The loss of Shikhar Dhawan from the squad due to injury has been a big one but India has the resources to overcome that as well. Lokesh Rahul performed well at the top of the batting order against Pakistan and Vijay Shankar bowled well in that game too.
There will be a question mark about Vijay Shankar’s batting now that Rishab Pant is a part of the squad as well. India may want to give Rishab Pant a chance in this match and just see how that affects their batting combination.
This match against Afghanistan should be a simple task for India. The conditions in England have not helped the Afghanistan side and India is in terrific form. We are sure that Virat Kohli and his men will not want to take this match easily.
Eoin Morgan showed just how switched on England was for its match against Afghanistan and now India needs to do the same.
The batsmen will be lining up to get some runs under their belt and we think India’s top-3 is going to make the most of this opportunity. Apart from a possible game for Rishab Pant at 4, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is also expected to be rested.
He picked up a slight injury in the game against Pakistan and is likely to be replaced by Mohammad Shami. It was a surprise when Shami was left-out of the initial playing eleven and he is going to come back with a point to prove.
India may have lost Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for this match but they are not going to be any weaker as an opponent.
Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, V Kohli, V Shankar, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, YS Chahal, JJ Bumrah.
There were huge expectations on Afghanistan before coming into the ICC World Cup 2019. No one expected it to win or reach the semi-final stage but people were hopeful of some memorable performances from them.
Sadly, that has not been the case.
Afghanistan cricket suffered a major blow to their campaign when Asghar Afghan was removed from captaincy and replaced by Gulbadin Naib just before the tournament began. Mohammad Shahzad then created controversy by claiming he had been forced to leave the tournament on the pretext of a fake injury.
Now, after five heavy losses, the knives are out.
The Afghanistan cricket board is blaming the coaching staff while Phil Simmons, the current coach, has said he will make revelations about the board president after the tournament. All of this takes away from the cricket campaign and shows just the chaos Afghanistan has descended into.
The conditions in England have not been helpful to Afghanistan. It is also becoming quite clear that they were lucky to make it through the qualifiers and are probably more suited to T20 cricket right now.
Afghanistan’s biggest strength was supposed to be its trio of spinners. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeb ur Rahman have played T20 cricket around the world and even done well in subcontinental conditions. All three of them rendered pretty ineffective in England and that has been very difficult for Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan became the first bowler to give away more than 100 runs in an ODI so he will have a lot to prove against India.
Afghanistan’s batting has been very poor and they are likely to struggle against India again.
Chaos and confusion seem to be a theme for Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2019. Beating India would be one of the biggest surprise victories not only for Afghanistan but among the history of the cricket world cup.
Hazratullah Zazai, Gulbadin Naib, R Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Ali Khil, N Zadran, Rashid Khan, Aftab Alam, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first and take advantage of the good batting conditions.

India vs Afghanistan is going to be played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. The weather seems to be finally turning for the better and we have been promised an excellent day for cricket. No rain and plenty of sunshine lie in store for match day.
The ground in Southampton is one of the bigger ones in England. This means that the spinners can bowl freely and go for wickets. Physical fitness, fielding, and running between the wickets are also going to be very important in this match.
A flat batting deck with plenty of runs in it lies in store.
The Dream11 team for India vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2019 will vary greatly depending upon what happens at the toss. So far, the Afghanistan batting has been terrible and it does not make sense to load up on batsmen if India bats second. We will release our updated team on Twitter (@cricketbettings) after the toss so make sure to follow us. Wicketkeeper: MS Dhoni is the only person we have picked in this category because there is no news about Rishab Pant getting a chance in the upcoming match. Vijay Shankar has recovered from his injury and should get another chance in the middle.
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been in excellent form and this is another opportunity for the pair of them to add to their growing world cup tally. Lokesh Rahul is a bargain at just 8.5 points considering he opens the batting and is in pretty good rhythm as well. Vijay Shankar is scheduled to bat at 4 and even though he looked a little rusty in the previous game, he is not a bad player. His bowling is also an added bonus and is almost certain to get a few overs. Hashmatullah Shahidi is the only player we have picked from Afghanistan among the batsmen. The batting performance from Afghanistan has been extremely poor and Shahidi is one of the few bright spots.
All-rounders: We have selected Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib in the all-rounder category over names like Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav. Nabi and Naib are going to almost certainly be required to contribute in both categories while the Indian all-rounders may not have much to do. This selection might change after the toss.
Bowlers: Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammad Shami, and Aftab Alam are the three bowlers we have selected right now. Chahal is the most consistent wicket-taker in the Indian side while Mohammad Shami is going to have a lot to prove. Aftab Alam is not the worst bowler but any wickets he takes are going to be a bonus. We can substitute Mohammad Shami with Kuldeep Yadav depending upon the pitch report as well.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have selected Rohit Sharma as captain and Virat Kohli as vice-captain for this match.
This is a match where punters need to either bet big on India and take the small return they make or just sit this one out. Afghanistan winning against India is not impossible. In fact, the two teams tied during the Asia Cup last year. In the current circumstances, though, there is nothing to suggest that Afghanistan is even going to be able to give India a decent workout.
