IND vs AUS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 09, 2023

There is no other bilateral Test Series apart from the Ashes that even comes close to the excitement that surrounds India vs Australia. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as it is called, has been with India for a while now. The last three series, including two in Australia, have been won by India and it goes into this one as the firm favorite as well.

Betway has it as the firm favorite to win the Test Match, as is the case with almost all the leading cricket betting sites in India and around the world.

There is a lot of speculation around the playing eleven for both teams and discussions around the pitch are always going on when Australia visits India. Let us try and unpack as much as we can to see what is likely to happen.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs Australia 1st Test 2023. The match will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur starting on the 9th of February 2023.

IND vs AUS Team Previews

India

India is going to have to answer some tough selection decisions when it comes to Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Will KL Rahul walk back into the side? Should Shubman Gill get a chance in the middle order or will SKY make his Test debut? India also has to decide between two or three spinners for this match.

We think India will open with KL Rahul and play SKY in the middle. Shubman Gill will have to wait for his chance, as tough as that may sound. The batting lineup for India is quite strong with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli in the top-4. SKY and KS Bharat will bring in the middle order with Jadeja and Ashwin at 7 and 8 respectively.

In Indian conditions, this is a long batting lineup. Virat Kohli has been in poor form over the last few years in Test cricket. he also struggled in Bangladesh and so we would not really want to bat on him just yet. Pujara is the one batter that we feel comfortable backing.

For the remaining three positions, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav seem likely to fight for one spot while Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj seem certain to be the first-choice fast bowlers. Both of them are excellent in utilizing the reverse swing so that is something to look out for as well.

India's spinners are going to be very tough to face and they are relentless in attack. That is where the match will be won or lost.

India Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.

Australia

Australia has come to the Indian tour in tremendous form, at the top of the rankings, and perhaps the best chance that it has had in a long time to win a series in India. However, hope can vanish quickly, and Australia will know it has to start strong.

On paper, Australia's side is very well-settled and well-rounded.

David Warner and Usman Khawaja will open the batting with Marnush Labuschagne and Steve Smith to follow. At number five, we think Travis Head has done enough to start this match but Australia may consider Peter Handscomb to break up the line of left-handers.

Alex Carey is the current first-choice keeper of the Australian lineup and should bat at number 6. There is no Cameron Green available to balance the team and so Pat Cummins could be the player to bat at number 7. This Australian batting lineup could struggle massively on wickets that spin against Aswin, Jadeja, and Axar all of whom have a lot of success against left-handers.

Nathan Lyon is the leading spinner for Australia and will have a massive role to play but we think Todd Murphy could be one to watch out for as well. We expect Australia to start with Ashton Agar as the third spinner for his batting potential as much as his spin-bowling ability.

With Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc ruled out, the final position in the playing eleven should go to Scott Boland.

Australia Playing 11

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Matt Renshaw, Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Todd Murphy, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland.

IND vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first and that should be seen as a big advantage.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted in Nagpur and the sun should be shining throughout. We are not going to have any trouble getting the full quota of overs over the five days. The pitch is what everyone is curious about. Reports from the ground and pictures on social media suggest that the pitch is not as brown or cracked as might have been expected.

It will still take turn, possibly from day 2 onward, and will be tough to bat on. Cracks, sharp spin, and inconsistent bounce are all things that the batters are likely to encounter. A score of around 300-350 batting first is going to be quite competitive with batting becoming progressively more difficult.

IND vs AUS Betting Tips

India has a tendency of starting a bit slow and does lose a lot of its first matches. However, it has only lost two matches at home in the previous decade, and stopping it is not going to be easy. Australia has brought a lineup of left-handers against whom the Indian spinners have had a lot of success. Also, the visitors are missing two of their best fast bowlers.

India should be able to win this match.

Marnus Labuschagne is the top ranked Test batter in the world with a fantastic record against India. He may not have played in India before but to get 70% return on your stake for just three boundaries off his bet is too good to pass on.

Australia will have to score quickly against the new ball, especially in the first inning. We think that will be the best time to bat and also think India will give its fast bowlers a chance. The Over/Under line is quite low and we think you can bet Over 13.5 for this one.

This market was only available at Cricbaba at the time of writing and we thought that it was quite generous with the odds. India's batting may not be as dominant as it once was but you still expect at least one of the batters to make it big in home conditions. Worth a punt for sure.
