IND vs AUS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 17, 2023

India has taken a 1-0 lead over Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and all the talk about this Australian team being the best prepared to take on India has fallen by the wayside. Suddenly, it is all about whether Australia can prevent a 4-0 defeat, whether can it find a way to play spin in India, and whether it needs to play in a more 'Australian' manner!

India played the perfect first Test but it would do well to not get complacent about what lies ahead. Australia is certainly capable of spinning a surprise and we do believe the difference in the sides is not as vast as the scorecard of the first Test makes it out to be.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs Australia 2nd Test Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. The match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi from the 17th of February onward.

IND vs AUS Team Previews

India

India dominated the first Test match from start to end but it does have a few questions to answer ahead of the second Test. Shreyas Iyer is expected to be fit for selection and we think he will walk back into the team in place of SKY. The KL Rahul question also persists and but he may get another match (at least) to put in a big performance.

The rest of the team should remain much the same.

Rohit Sharma was the standout batter for India in the first Test with support from the middle and lower order. KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara (playing his 100th Test), and Virat Kohli all failed to perform. This is why adding Shreyas Iyer, India's best player of spin right now, is a big boost for the Indian team.

Srikar Bharat, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel form one of the most formidable lower-order batting lineups in the world right now, at least in home conditions. They allow India to get the extra 50-100 runs without compromising its bowling.

All three spinners will play a central role in this match on a pitch that is once again expected to spin sharply. Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj were excellent with the new ball and ensure there is no respite for the opposition batters at any time.

Everything seems to be in India's favor right now.

India Playing 11

Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.

Australia

Australia made a couple of selection blunders in its previous match and also did not execute its plans properly. We think Travis Head is going to walk back into the team because Matthew Renshaw may have a slight injury niggle. Also, Mitchell Starc should be available for selection and could replace Scott Boland.

Australia went with just four bowlers in the previous match and that was a mistake. If they genuinely want to win then they need to play with five bowlers. Cameron Green being available for selection could help solve that problem but then one out of Travis Head, David Warner, or Peter Handscomb will miss out.

Changing the team around so frequently will affect the morale of the lineup and put pressure on all of the players that are playing. Having so many left-handers in the lineup is a big problem for Australia and they will continue to remain very susceptible to the Indian spinners, all of whom are brilliant against lefties.

That leaves Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne to score the bulk of the runs. They both showed promise but may need to come up with their absolute best to be able to make a major mark against the Indian spinners.

Australia's bowlers did quite well in the previous Test. Todd Murphy started with seven wickets, Nathan Lyon bowled well without reward, and Scott Boland was very accurate. Pat Cummins is also too good a bowler to miss out for too long.

The problem for Australia has been getting the right balance. It is up against a superior opponent in home conditions and that is why something truly extraordinary needs to happen for it to win.

Australia Playing 11

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Todd Murphy, Nathan Lyon, Matthew Kuhnemann.

IND vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. That should be seen as having a huge advantage (particularly if the pitch does not spin from the start).

Pitch and Conditions

The weather is quite good in Delhi. The temperatures have started to rise as the winter recedes but they should still be quite comfortable to play in. Also, the air quality and the visibility are among the best the city has seen in a long time.

The pitch is going to be dry and take turn. Delhi generally offers up a surface that takes sharp turn. That can make it much more difficult to negotiate than a pitch like what we saw in Nagpur. Another match that progresses rapidly and struggles to reach the fourth day is likely.

IND vs AUS Betting Tips

We have no hesitation in backing India once again. This Indian team is one of the best of all time. Their dominance in home conditions is approaching legendary status and there does not seem to be any apparent weakness. India is capable of dominating and winning in any country but while playing at home, it is the most difficult team to beat.

Bet on India to win.

Khawaja has struggled against spin in India in the past and he looked a bit unsure in the first Test as well. He has indicated a willingness to play his shots which could actually lead to his downfall. We think betting against him is the way to go.

This is a risky bet but if there is one player that is in good form then that is Rohit Sharma. His record in India is truly exceptional and we think he has a good chance of getting a good score in this match. He also scores a lot of boundaries to can get Over 3.5 Fours in no time.
