IND vs AUS Match Prediction - Mar 19, 2023

India won the opening match of the ODI series on what turned out to be a pretty helpful track for the bowlers. Australia batted first and was bowled out cheaply thanks to a superb performance from the Indian pacers. India also lost some early wickets but knowing they had to get a small target allowed them to bide their time.

Now, the action shifts to Vishapakapatnam for the second match. This is something that, on paper, should favor India as its record is fantastic at the venue. We think the teams are pretty closely matched and there are some great betting opportunities to take advantage of with sites like Parimatch offering some competitive odds.

IND vs AUS Team Previews

India

India benefitted from winning the toss and chasing in the previous match but it was sits depth in batting that allowed it to eventually get to a victory. KL Rahul is becoming quite the prolific ODI middle-order batter while Ravindra Jadeja continues to impress with the bat.

The batting after number seven is quite thin and could have been blown away but that did not happen in the previous match. Ishan Kishan is going to be replaced by Rohit Sharma for this match and that is another big positive for India. Rohit Sharma scored a century in his previous match and has formed an excellent batting partnership with Shubman Gill.

In fact, Gill (India's best ODI batter right now), Sharma, Kohli, and SKY form a very strong batting top order. SKY has yet to prove his credentials in ODI cricket but would you really bet against him eventually coming good? We would not.

With KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja in the lineup, the batting is very strong. The only place where India might struggle is if it has to play at a higher tempo than normal. That will bring it out of its comfort zone and so in a lot of ways, venues where the par score is 300 suit India better than where they need to score 360 or 375.

Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj are turning into one of the best white-ball bowling pairs in the world. They basically broke the Australian back in the previous match. They also covered up some of the weaknesses of the other bowlers.

We think Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya can be vulnerable to attack, especially on surfaces where there is not much help.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Lokesh Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami.

Australia

Australia went in with 8 batting options and backed their bowling all-rounders to do the job. The fact that the batters did not deliver and then there was not enough firepower to back Mitchell Starc up showed their plans fell apart quite comprehensively.

We think they are going to stick to their guns and go with pretty much the same team for the next match. Players like Travis Head, Steve Smith, and the big-hitting all-rounders will all enjoy the surface in Vishakapatnam. This is the perfect opportunity for Australia to try and showcase its batting strength and go hard from the start.

We backed Head to score a big one in the previous match and are not losing faith in him just yet. Steve Smith also looked in tremendous touch before getting out. Mitch Marsh also scored a big one and that could leave David Warner in a bit of a precarious position.

Australia holds the advantage in terms of batting power and it has more depth than India. To make the most of its resources, though, it has to play a high-risk game and that is not going to be easy to execute.

Mitchell Starc bowled beautifully in the previous match getting the ball to shape back. He was by far the best of the Australian bowlers although Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis had their moments as well. The medium-pace all-round bowling options could go for a lot of runs in this match and are likely to be targetted.

Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.

IND vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Five out of the nine ODI's played in Vishakapatnam have been won by the team that has chased. Both teams also prefer chasing. Interestingly, the team that has won the toss has won seven out of the nine ODIs played here! That is a big advantage to have.

Pitch and Conditions

There has been some rain in Vishakapatnam and there is a chance we may see some rain during the match. High humidity with temperatures in the range of mid to late twenties (centigrade) are expected. The pitch at this venue is generally very good for batting. The average score batting first is 265 with 387 (scored by India against West Indies) the highest score here.

We think something in the range of 330-350 should be considered as par.

IND vs AUS Betting Tips

We are going to continue to back Australia in this contest. We think they are being undervalued and the odds being offered on them are quite attractive. It is obviously a risk to bet against India in India but that is the name of this game. We see a lot more value in betting against the home team. With a strong and powerful batting lineup, Australia is more than capable of causing an upset.

Bet on Australia to win.

We saw 17 runs being hit in one over even in the previous match which was quite low-scoring. On a venue where the average scoring rate is 6.05 per over, we think the Over/Under line is quite favorable. We are betting Over 18.5 in at least one over during the entire match.

The odds that we are getting on this bet are just too good to pass on. Travis Head generally hits a lot of sixes once he is set. In his previous four innings that he has scored over 30 runs, he has a total of 13 sixes. With an opportunity to almost triple your stake, we think the risk is worth taking!
